Energy used by the granny charger

The losses are not in the wall box or granny charger, the losses are in the car. The wall box and granny are just glorified relays and safety interlocks, they are not chargers. There might be a few watts dissipated there at most. The losses are in the vehicle where the charger lives. The...

    Let’s put the record straight

Did the survey three quarters of the way through then found it did not allow for locations outside the UK. D’oh. Since you can bypass the vehicle plate lookup and manually enter the make and model, I just lied about the location.

My MG4 delivered in December 2023 (according to MG it’s a 2024 model year) came with: SWI165-29176-1100R11 SNAKP0432A Time zone is good and while you can’t permanently disable LKA there is a swipe down from the top of the screen and two clicks to disable. If you forget, the first time you...

    Charging pin melt

High resistance contact with subsequent heating and burning can be caused by the male or female contact so it is certainly possible it’s your cable that was at fault. I’m assuming you used your own cable to connect to the supermarket AC charger? Also, overcurrent or leakage fault protection in...

    New Zealand Tesla charging experience

And Tesla in Blenheim. Opposite a really nice cafe, the Karaka Central. Subscription price 81.65 c/kWh. Yes, I’ve signed up as I’m using them quite a bit now. A couple of Tesla chargers a month, and it’s worth it compared to ChargeNet at up to 89 c. No, the X-Trail was not charging…

@RP67 more Mainland charging action: Blenheim at Tesla (Note Nissan using a bay as a carpark) And pretty remote Kōhatu Flat The Zero chargers there between Nelson and Murchison were a welcome 47kW @80c/kWh. However, the cost to me was $0 as I have a free Zero subscription for 6 months.

Lane Assist Trying To Kill Me!

I wonder what would happen if you pulled the fuse that protects the motor that actuates the steering wheel?

All new cars now have to have speed limiters

100km/h speed limit for most New Zealand roads here. However, my MG4 Trophy/Essence 64 displays 120 at the start of the new express road to the north of Wellington called Transmission Gully. While it would be great that it was 120, it's certainly not that (yet)!

    ZS EV dash cam install

You can neaten that install by tucking the cord behind the hard plastic at the very top of the rear view mirror holder (see post #1) and/or using a shorter cable. I found a good length at a local PC store.

    Aircon pump squeak / chirp.

That image makes clear the type of oil to use: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyolester So it would appear that both PAG 46 and PAG 100 are both wrong. Also, when I first looked at the image I read it as POE required with 150g grams but on quick reflection no one would measure a liquid in...

USB socket by the rear view mirror- suitable for dashcam?

My experience: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/zs-ev-dash-cam-install.10856/ The dash cam is a DDPI Mini 5 4k UHD (actually 3840×2160). It’s worked very well. Doesn’t support parking bump monitoring but for everything else it’s been fine. Have already provide evidence to police for an accident...

Home charging cable does not lock. Normal?

@Coulomb both BYD and SAIC (for MG4) are using SiC MOSFETs rather than IGBTs for the pfc and inverter circuits. Advantages of silicon carbide include higher breakdown voltage.

Home charging cable does not lock. Normal?

My wife drives a ZS EV and I’m pretty certain you can pull the plug while it’s charging on AC as we routinely share the same AC granny lead. Maybe she has a fault. You definitely can’t pull the plug on DC. As for the AC voltage and arc, sure on high voltages there are second order effects, but...
