Mini North Island New Zealand road trip

Merry Christmas. Spent the last two days running round the city catching up with friends and family. The MG4 is ideal for this sort of thing, the Essence (Trophy) version 360 degree cameras make parking a breeze at tight supermarket parks and unfamiliar hotel slots. The wide front doors make...

    Will NACS win (eventually)?

    Yes, reputably the porn industry…

    Will NACS win (eventually)?

Yes and more precisely: the Australian/New Zealand MG4 2024 model year. Why model years don't align with calendar years is another story.

    Will NACS win (eventually)?

No support for three phase (3Ø) is a big deal, while only the MG4 extended range supports 3Ø 11 kW charging models like the ZS EV support 3Ø across the range. Outside the US, it's a fair generalisation to say the connector battle has been won by CCS2 (except in Japan). Teslas for example here...

Mini North Island New Zealand road trip

So it's Christmas and the family festivities are in Hamilton. We live in Waikanae, roughly 384 km (238 miles) one way and 6 hours driving south. However, we needed to make a detour to visit a friend with a new property in Inglewood. That added detour makes one way of the round trip 518 km (322...

    New Zealand Tesla charging experience

@craigupnorth on the Tesla app Account page that shows the Apple Pay option, there is a small + in the top right hand corner. Tap that and you can add another payment method (credit card). It is easier to use than ChargeNet or Z because there is no silly fob to misplace and no often broken...

    New MG4 Shipment?

I ordered December 6 and my vehicle was at the dealer December 13. It was due December 18 but the boat arrived ahead of schedule. For both this purchase, white MG4 Essence (Trophy) 64, and my wife’s red ZS EV Excite (SE) 51 in March we chose from the unallocated vehicles heading for MG local...

Australia/New Zealand specs for what you Brits call the Mk II or 2023 models are: Excite 51 88 kW Excite and Essence 64 140 kW Long Range 77 144 kW The first three only do 6.6 kW on AC single phase while the Long Range does 11 kW AC on three phase.

There are a bunch of Tesla 140 kW chargers near Hagley Park. They are $0.97 for casual charging but worth a small splurge to experience the high rate (you’d need to download the app but it’s free).

140 kW max, a bit faster than typical 50 kW chargers… You don’t have to pay the membership fee, the ad hoc price is $0.99 per kW/hr. Handy if you’re in a hurry.

To other Kiwi owners, Tesla is now allowing limited access to their charging network in NZ. Not super cheap $0.99 without membership and $0.89 with, but that’s not too appalling compared with Chargenet at $0.85 for the >= 150 kW bays.

    Do you flash other mg4s?

Here we do just lift the fingers of the right hand off the wheel, sort of a half wave. On my rural road it’s to everyone include pedestrians (often neighbours), then in the less rural areas to early risers <7am or people with the same brand of car (Landrover or MG in my case), then in the city...

YouTuber Jerry Pan works at Ebbett. While I've not dealt with the dealership, I can highly recommend Jerry's informative videos. My wife and I learned a lot about our ZS EV from them.
