    If you break down, beware!

@bigal Because of the lethal voltage, for safety EV high voltage (HV) batteries have contactors (a relay to cut off the power) built inside the battery casing. These must be powered from the vehicle's 12V battery before the 400V (or 800V depending on the EV design) is able to flow out out the HV...

    First long distance trip. Report

The local dealer handover here is a theatrical 'reveal' (car hidden under a car cover in the showroom, with the DP pulling it back with suitable flare) followed by a detailed 20 minute one-on-one tutorial on the controls. Even for the test drive back in August I had an abbreviated but still...

MG4 Spotted! : Was it you?

White Essence 64 Waikanae Saturday 16 Dec. Noted as I've just bought the same. Bit of an electric day as on same 20 minute local round trip to shops I spotted a Cupra Born, ORA Funky Cat, plus a bunch of the obligatory T3s and ZS EVs.

    What've you got?

Interesting observation. Here in NZ you can buy two battery versions of the base trim, the 51 kW LFP and 64 kW NMC (Excite 51 and Excite 64) versions with cloth seats, 17” wheels, no spoiler, reverse camera only. The trim step up adds leather, 18” wheels, spoiler, 360 deg cameras with NMC...

There is a whole range of wheel centres available. Here are just a couple of examples: I’m going for the silver ones. You do need to know the right size to get. @RP67 the rims you’ve shown are nothing like the ones I have. In terms of rust, a spray of CRC LanoCote will halt that.

Best Colour for the ZS ? Gen 1 or gen 2

The blue looks sharp, but everyone knows that red cars go faster… From left to right: Mk I, Mk II ER, Mk II SR

@Symar300 thanks for your posts. This will be our second MG, my wife already drives a ZS EV. We have a decent three phase 11kW charger at home but I'm a little disappointed to find that the MG4 can only do 6.6kW on AC as it only has a single phase charger, unless you buy the 77kW LR. We have...

    MG4 Carplay RHD Setting?

I didn’t have a lead to test Apple Car Play in the MG4 I test drive recently in NZ but the infotainment control icons were on the right:

Was that you in your MG ZS EV?

Meanwhile on the other-side of the world I had this fortuitous meet at a charger recently, from left to right: ZS EV Gen 1 up spec Essence, ZS EV Gen 2 Essence LR, and my ZS EV Gen 2 Excite with the visible plate. What were the chances of that happening?

Gen2 MG4 - has anyone seen one yet?

@lbdsg drove an MG4 demonstrator last week here on the Kapiti coast and can confirm the rear wiper. Tyres were Bridgestone Turanza. Larger 18" wheels only on the Essence and Long Range models, the two Excite versions (51 kW LFP and 64 kW NMC types) have the smaller 17" tyres. The roof was black...

MG4 Spotted! : Was it you?

New orange and dark grey MG4 demonstrators spotted in Kapiti, New Zealand. This would not be a big thing in the UK or EU, but the MG4 was only released last week in this country. I did a test drive and the handling was superb.

    MG4 SR rear axle noise

Test drove a new MG4 last week here in New Zealand. Humming resonance noise noticeable but not objectionable with speeds between 100 and 120 km/h. Seems to come from the front, maybe the air dam splitter?

    ZS EV dash cam install

Sure the USB 1.0 and 2.0 standards set out a maximum of 5 unit loads (defined as 100mA each) and that would be the expected minimum. However, USB 3.0 allows 9 units (0.9A) and up to 1.2A for dedicated charging. Then there is the USB Power Delivery (PD) spec which allows up to 2A and recommends...

    ZS EV dash cam install

Update: checked the voltage and current. The mirror mount USB port is delivering 4.96V with the 750mA load of the dash cam. All good. Still interested to find the maxium supported or specified load.
