If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

I've not done any android programming, but have a vague memory that there are hundreds of permissions the programmer can request. To make it manageable for the user to enable and disable, they are put in to just a few groups such as phone, location, contacts etc. The BT permissions are lumped in...

If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

In the app info my permissions are location, nearby devices, notifications and phone. Nearby devices sound like a good one to try. I suppose phone may be also be required to provide some sort of device ID, but may only be necessary if you want to use the phone MG assistance feature in the app.

If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

For Android, the method to get to the Digital key pages is different depending on the theme in use: For the white theme, tap on the words Digital key above the words keyless start. For the 100 years theme, tap on the octagon containing a key fob and Bluetooth symbol. You should then be on a...

If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

It's a long time since I did it, but I think the only instructions are on the app on the first time you try and use it. On the app version I used you only had to hold it near the centre of the steering wheel, but they may have changed it again by now.

If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

Hmmm, did the SE SR ever support the Bluetooth key I wonder. My SE LR does, but the latest SE versions apparently don't have it according to the MG website. The Bluetooth key doesn't seem to need pairing (Bluetooth LE?). On Android iSmart, if the little Bluetooth symbol on the main page is...

If you think putting your car key through the washing machine is bad...

If you could actually see the problem that matches the symptoms, it'll probably be good to go after your testing. I'm not sure if the possibility of PCB damage as well would still niggle away at me though, and I'd end up replacing it anyway. Do you have a Bluetooth key setup just in case?

    iSmart not connecting today?

I find the app is generally much more reliable these days. Although it may need a couple of refreshes or just waiting for 10 minutes now and then, I no longer need to unlock the car to get it responding again. However, it now frequently fails while AC charging and only sometimes recovers...

eCall SOS - terrible audio quality - garbled voices!

The SE doesn't have this option in car, presumably as it uses the same eSim as the wifi hot-spot. Instead you need a phone, either with the app or use the little MG assistance card that lives in the centre console to find the number.

Charging Flap / Door not opening

There are a couple of other threads with details and pictures about this somewhere, one from @Bricktop X PWR I think. But from memory, the outer skin is normally released from the black cover when it is open by levering a tab on the lower part of the black cover out with a penknife or small...

strange failure to go into ready

I had almost exactly the same - having stopped at the T junction at the bottom of a hill the drive lamp didn't come on when selected. Having just managed to coast across the road to a slightly safer place I found the car would actually drive and it was just the lamp that didn't come on. A few...

    Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

It's a shame they can't use all that space under there for more battery. I'd be sorely tempted to get one when we go down to a single car in a year or two.

    Latest upgrade for mg4

Have you tried disabling the cruise control in the menu? The speed limiter mode then shows up and can be enabled, which most likely still has 5mph increments. You may find this a useful interim workaround. The other obvious differences are: You have to keep your foot on the accelerator. The...

I never knew the speed limit recognition was so bad

Any system that relies on a camera only is going to get it wrong much of the time. However I'd be quite happy if it just displayed the last sign it saw, perhaps flashing for a few seconds on each change. That would actually be both useful and not annoying for me.

Macklin Motors MG Edinburgh West - MG Dealer Discussion, Opinions & Experiences

You have to be quite careful selecting neutral. It is quite easy to go past neutral and select reverse instead, In which case it does pop up that warning. It's reassuring to know it does have sensible protection in for that situation.

    New owner checklist

Perhaps they could split the Similar threads section in to two. Similar threads on this board and Similar threads on other boards. It may reduce the problem at least 🤔.

    MSD (Manual Service Disconnect)

It sounds like a high voltage one. I wouldn't touch with a barge pole unless you have the proper manuals, circuit diagrams, instruction etc. You could see if someone on the ZS forum has anything useful.

    Battery Tender / Trickle Chargers

I'm inclined to agree with you, but you could argue if the 12V usage has worked its way through the remaining traction battery, then something is wrong such as a dash cam left on, or I believe there is a radio fault which will drain the battery. In that case having enough remaining to allow a...

A cautionary tale for MG 4 EV owners

If you have had had ismart working normally in the past and have setup the Bluetooth key in digital key management, the Bluetooth key should keep working without a network connection. So if iSmart is giving failure or try again later messages, see if the Bluetooth icon on the main page is...

    MSD (Manual Service Disconnect)

I was unsure about pulling it out in case it caused warnings etc which might need clearing. That small MSD (Manual Service Disconnect) plug is on a 12V circuit looped through various connectors most likely. Whenever any plug on that loop begins to be removed, the HV relay(s) disconnect. So if...

    MG4 64 with a problem (reverse creep)

Is this the same problem discussed here: Thread 'OPD, car rolls backwards when stopping on downhill slopes (merged thread)' OPD, car rolls backwards when stopping on downhill slopes (merged thread) There is a good video of it at post 20. After a recent software update in the UK (SC077 ?)...
