Purely a guess, but maybe the HV battery needs to be totally idle while balancing so the cell voltages are virtually static and hence the measured voltages are as accurate as possible ?

I've had 3 instances of opening the boot setting of the alarm over the last year. I've yet to see anything common between the 3 occasions when it happened, let alone a reason for it. The car was locked and the key in my pocket on each occasion 🤷.
