    MG5 to MG4 boot space.

Here’s a comparison I put together for the ZS, 5 and 4- if you have a big dog may be useful. The 4 swallows a surprising amount of stuff.

Best / most efficient regen braking setting?

Been driving ev for over 12 years and always use the strongest setting for regen then use the throttle to control how much force it uses. By feathering the throttle you hold it in a position to get less regen, when easing off keep some pressure on the throttle -this you can monitor on the power...

    2nd service

Only if the items not maintained in the service schedule directly relate to the warranty claim- for instance the brakes failing due to fluid not being replaced- it is more hassle to claim but under the consumer rights act they can’t hold a lack of scheduled services stop a warranty claim if a...

    2nd service

Only item that is a little bit more time to complete is the brake fluid change but even that is very quick (30 mins using siphon system), the pollen filter and key fob batteries would be under 5 mins too.

    2nd service

I paid £88.80 for the first 15,000 mile service at Richmond MG Portsmouth MG4 Trophy long range. Have another 4,800 miles until the next one so will see if the prices have increased then, if so I’ll look at an independent ev specialist. Should be roughly double the first service in time taken...

    Disappointing winter range

As far as balancing goes the pack will passive balance at any 0%, higher voltage cells will leach into lower voltage cells when the pack is inactive, active balancing happens towards the very end of the charge cycle most notably once 100% (usable) capacity is reached- this is 4-4.1v per cell...

    Charging MG 4Trophy

The cars onboard AC charger will output DC to the battery at max of 6.6kW (20-25 amps) from a 7kW AC supply, nominal will be 6.2kW- this will vary throughout the charge from 0-100% as it’s not linear. The continuous output is usually between 5.4-6.2kW from a 32-40amp 240v AC power supply (the...

Upgrade old MG4 Speaker to JBL

I tested with a full range sound test track and the rear output was full range, didn’t seem to be filtered (UK long range Trophy)

Just seen the new VW ID7 Estate, is it just me...

The leaf has a good custom DIY following- I helped install a 64kwh pack in an early 24kwh Leaf, and have pulled apart several Leaf battery packs to use the cells in projects- (a 58v 14 cell pack in my enduro e-bike and the same as a back pack on my sailboat that I converted to electric drive)...

Just seen the new VW ID7 Estate, is it just me...

They are manufacturing partners so develop and share rather than copy- the partnership was developed to save VW group development costs in the mid 1980’s when they were in trouble. Many parts are similar but not interchangeable although there are many unseen parts that are used in both brands...

Just seen the new VW ID7 Estate, is it just me...

There are many parts including chassis manufactured by SAIC as they have been manufacturing partners with VW Group since 1986. The MG5 is the old Buick Exell with a face lift and many parts are similar to VW or the same like the steering wheel. The MG5 is a Buick Exell with a facelift SAIC use...

    Fitting a tow-bar invalidates insurance

It applies to selling a product, the product would need to be type approved for retail in order to be fitted to the intended vehicle. You can tow with any vehicle within the legal licensing weight limits - if not type approved by the manufacturer for towing then warranty issues could arise. You...

    Fitting a tow-bar invalidates insurance

….as a side note: on custom builds I’ve done where I’ve fabricated a tow hitch to the chassis it’s never been a problem for insurance (or cost any extra).

    Fitting a tow-bar invalidates insurance

You should notify your insurance company of any changes even if they seem small- my insurance covers towing and any damage caused in a collision (most fully comp dose) but still best to check if additional towbar needs to be added to the policy.

    12V Battery

Yes I can confirm- had my dash cam plugged in to the 12V cigarette socket for 2 years- it switches off when the car off and locked.

    Revised/upgraded X Power

I’m tempted to swap my Trophy for an Xpower now I can get one for under 25k. For that price suspension mods, cabin upgrades, extra tweaks would be great but ultimately not much is needed to make it a better (version) road car. Upper and lower front and rear strut braces, some rebound and camber...

    MG4 mud flaps

They’re not much longer than the rear lower valance- I posted the fitting video and this photo was taken this morning after 22,000 miles on the car, not had any sort of grounding issues even when scrabbling across fields and rough tracks to get to wild camping sites.

I will never buy another MG ever again ?

Need a bit more to go on- probably the dealership you used rather than MG Motors- they are private companies selling MG so can be hit and miss.

Drink / Drive over the limit

If you’re in a public place not on private land you may be required to move the vehicle at any time- for instance if there is an emergency situation, if solo and inside the vehicle you are responsible for it and need license, VED, insurance and must follow the road traffic laws and regulations...

Drink / Drive over the limit

It’s more about responsibility- if you are parked up in a public place you may be required to move the vehicle at any time so the same rules apply to a camper as any motor vehicle, you wouldn’t want a big truck driver drinking even if they are camping out in the rig for several days. May seem...
