    MG4 Trophy Speaker Upgrade

Hi, check photos attached. I have the virtual sub off and loudness as they are not needed. You have to install a passive high crossover for the tweeters or they won’t work well and make sure the positive and negative terminals all match up. The rear door speaker mounts are the same, I have the...

Are you happy with your MG4?

All good after 15,300 miles in 12 months. The sound system was pants so I upgraded the speakers and now that’s great too.

    MG4 Trophy Speaker Upgrade

The stock tweeter is tapped from the main speaker feed, crossover capacitor built in to the tweeter, not sure what it’s rated at as didn’t note it down. Best to add a passive crossover and new tweeter as the stock ones are pants ?. I’ll check and see if I still have the originals when back home...

    Xpower first long trip

It’s ’mainly‘ rear motor in all modes except sport, will switch if needed to all wheel drive- hard acceleration, hard throttle out of corner, lack of traction etc- in sport mode it’s full dual motor mode except in reverse.

    MG4 Trophy Speaker Upgrade

Not sure about an adapter but you can find the same types of connectors but will probably have to make up your own harness. Use the Cross-over high connector unit that comes with the Vibe components and connect to the existing tweeter wiring in the dash to the input then new tweeter to the high...

Not getting the advertised range on full charge

The indicated range after charging is based on how the car was last driven, speed, weather, acceleration, heat and aircon, auxiliaries etc. It will adjust as you drive so if you drive at a slower speed, weather is warmer etc it will decrease less in real time or drive faster in colder weather it...

Radio didn't turn off when locked.

It happens with any operating systems, to cold reboot turn on the car fully, long press the home button until the screen goes blank then release, this should reboot and clear any boot errors.

Portable petrol generator to make it into a plug in hybrid

Maybe 10 years ago with my first Ev with 80 miles range and very few rapid chargers a portable generator would have been handy. Just not worth it now with 200-300 mile range and 140kw plus rapid charging, you would be looking at 10amp charge speed or having to carry a huge 6-8kw generator plus fuel.

    Gains from regen braking

Set to full strength regen and using the throttle to regulate the strength from coast to full gives far more control. I’ve been driving and riding electric for over 10 years and build my own stuff too including battery packs. Converted my sailboat to electric drive with hydro-regen over the prop...

    Gains from regen braking

Regen isn’t just to slow down to a stop, best method for efficiency is to feather the throttle to maintain a speed on a downward slope or reduce speed slightly to use a little regen. Long downhills though it’s better to coast, you can coast by adjusting the throttle to keep the power meter at 0...

    Lane Keep Assist feature

It is a bit harsh, I always turn the speed limiter on before starting so just flick it off at the same time, it is what it is but it can be deactivated before you set off or switched to haptic alert. Just make it part of your vehicle checks before driving, we share a car so I have to reset the...

    Battery life and replacement cost

That doesn’t indicated a loss of capacity as it’s well within the nominal capacity from manufacture. If you 0-100% capacity test it you will find it is actually over what the manufactures state. My 64kwh usable capacity is 61.8 but on testing (minus some losses) it comes in at 62.6kwh. A few...

    Battery life and replacement cost

4000 full (0-100%) charge cycles is about right for a thermally managed traction pack, so at 3.8 miles per kWh (235 miles for 62kwh pack) that’s 940,000 miles battery life. A drop in capacity will probably happen a bit before this but still even at 2,000 charge cycles you’re looking at 470,000...

    MG4 mud flaps

As others have mentioned it’s just a standard small ratchet with a small socket stub used with a Phillips cross screwdriver bit. Mine is from a large Halfords socket set I’ve had for a long time.

Upgrade old MG4 Speaker to JBL

The sound is much improved, much better bass notes with good punch and clarity, mids have better clarity and better control, the best upgrade though is with the tweeters: highs especially percussion and vocals really shine. The sound deadening is very important so don’t miss this out it’s well...

    Roof bars

Why wait for MG to say it ok to use? There’s no legal issue for securing loads to a car roof, apart from making sure the load is secure and not overhanging, you can even tie stuff down straight on the roof. The roof is designed to support the weight of the car after all although I wouldn’t...

    Roof bars

My insurance is ok with a roof rack, the wording in the small print is more about carrying an unsecured load or hazardous materials as this ‘may’ affect a claim in the event of an incident.
