There is no issues with staying in the car while it is charging. You can even turn it on and have the aircon running. Make sure you turn it all the way on (foot on brake pedal) as just having it powered on the 12V battery can quickly drain it and make starting the car a nightmare.

You must plug into the USB Port that shows the phone interface. There are two ports. The right hand port is the port for AA or memory stick. The other port is power only.
I have a Rolec system that my friendly electrician put in about 7 years ago - life was different then.
Nothing clever about it. Just does what it says on the tin and charges the car when it is plugged in. I did add a Bluetooth timer relay to it so I can schedule charging.

As long as the car has wired CarPlay, this device will work. It piggybacks onto the CarPlay API. The device runs a version of Android, so can run without having to use CarPlay or Android Auto.
