Which car survey- Mg4 voted unreliable

I wouldn't call it unreliable as all the annoying faults on mine don't render the car unusable. It is annoying to have so many niggles on a new car though After 10 years of Toyotas with zero faults and only one recall, then 3 years with the ZS ev with only two faults, the steering click and a...

My old 2020 ZS didn't have the update and I could plug the charger in at least 2 hours before it was scheduled without it going to sleep.

    Reduction Box Oil

FWIW, we had SWMBO's MG5 in for its 4th service (4 years) and they changed the transmission oil. It's done less than 7k miles, should be good for another 4 years.

    Test the 12V battery

A 12V car battery has 6 cells that are 2.1V each, 6 x 2.1 = 12.6V. With the car on you are seeing the charging voltage, which can be as high as 14.2V or more, not the battery's resting voltage. Turn the car off, disconnect the -ve lead and check with a multimeter or if it's a second generation...

Fast charging and Low Voltage battery warning?

No problem, I was surprised as anybody when I found out the MG4 charged the 12V in ACC mode, having had a ZS before the 4 that didn't. 😉

Fast charging and Low Voltage battery warning?

Not true, as soon as you switch the car on (pre ready state) by sitting in the seat, the HV battery charges the 12V. Check the 12V voltage on the TPMS page, when it's charging it reads 13.9-14.2V. When not charging the 12v reads 12.6V or less, as can be seen in the app.

Fast charging and Low Voltage battery warning?

By fast I assume you mean rapid DC. The 12V is not charged up on a DC charger as it is on AC. So if you're sat in the car with accessories on then you're draining the 12V. It shouldn't be a problem if your 12V is in good condition. Those warning lights should go off if you get out, turn the car...

    Test the 12V battery

12.88V seems a bit high, a fully charged battery should read 12.6V. (cheap meter ?)

    Temperature Setting

Mine needs to be set to at least 26C to get any heat at all out, I use 27C and fan speed 5 or 6 then drop it back to 26C when the cabin has warmed up a bit. I find the quickest way to get the heat flowing is to use the front demister for a few minutes then turn it off, leaving the above settings.
