Questions about buying a used MG4 SE

I have a mega first off the boat phase 1 - tinted rear windows. Software updates yes BUT they are applied with dealer tools and software - you’ll be lucky to get many anyway if things work unless you buy the tools. OPD is not on phase 1 and apparently never will be. Can’t really see it other...

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Failure MG4

It requires extra equipment to do that hence costs more. The way they do it is fit a transducer in 3 wheel wells (you fire a few kHz signal maybe 100khz can’t remember into the TPMS sensor and it replies with its pressure, serial number etc on the frequency of the central locking). It can...

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Failure MG4

The sensors have a battery in them (usually a large button battery potted into the sensor). When the battery gets low or dies - the sensor is toast as you can’t replace the battery. They transmit data on the same frequency as the remote central locking. The car knows where each sensor is as the...

Surprisingly short battery balancing period (still)

I haven’t had too much chance to do experiments (don’t have a home charger anymore long story) but my early SE SR after updating every module myself including the BMS spent an eternity balancing the battery 2+ hours then settled. Using work chargers now so can’t really see but it was interesting...

Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

There was a BMS update and it was one of the smaller updates then again my car was one of the very first in the UK (it has the wrong back windows). Pretty sure you will … that’s what does the lane assist and everything behind the rear view mirror unless you mean it’s been removed.

Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

Links are in the 1st post with guides. You’ll need a usb stick and the files off here for the infotainment update (which is part related to the HVAC). It’s not really hard to use BUT it gets itself in a knot failing to update modules so will often take multiple goes/disconnecting battery etc and...

Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

You can get downloading the software now - it’s rather large. Only other bits I can suggest are have a laptop with a good amount of grunt (the software is oddly bulky), update the firmware on the VCI, have a 12V battery charger on the car and if doing software updates buy a whole day; very long...

Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

Read through this thread thoroughly. It is all downloaded via MG which eats into your paid for time. Some kind member has archived it so you can get it all ready for when you pay. Links and guides all early on in the first posts.

    Water in boot lid

4 attempts at 2 different dealers with the final visit being a week. Exactly the same situation. There is a service bulletin to apply sealant to a panel (didn’t fix it). There were many many clips replaced getting to things but the leak was fixed. 1st gen SE

So count me in for the 12 volt discharged battery problem

I believe there was a service campaign early on. The amount of updates on my 1st gen was basically every module. Also… the battery supplied is trash, there were stories of them barely lasting a year.

Modules that fail, reprogramme individually as replacements - different tab to the one touch update. To get it to work there may be battery disconnects needed and as for the park thing. Mine had similar but updating more modules and doing that final procedure it warns you about (parking on...

    First service

It’s all software. Not sure what versions etc you’d have but I had an early SE and updated everything as per the guides (and buying the kit on here). The heater behaves much better, lane kill much better even the mileage I get seems improved (I think I can stuff more in the battery and it tends...

    iSmart Update to 3.0

Can’t get into mine - looks like the iOS update has happened but can’t log in. Says email, telephone not registered. Is it down by chance ?

Make sure you are applying the correct files for the head unit on usb. Run the auto update in sips “update all” as I recall. That lists every module with firmware and calibration vs what’s latest on the servers - you want green ticks on all of them (this is a hellish process) and if any fail -...

    Time taken for software update

I updated every module on my se sr. Started around 10am and finished around 5pm. Granted I was going overboard doing everything. It is not a nice process.. The usb bit not too bad. SIPS is slow and there is a tendency for it to fail, repeatedly.

Diagnostic VDI, VNCI, MDI with MG4

Hot fixes - honestly can’t remember but to be safe I’d pop them all on in order. In truth I barely touched VDS and spent hours in SIPS on the updates. When you pay they make the username and password available to log into the software from when you purchase. So buy at 9am you get 24hr from then...

I'm done with my dealer. Help needed!

Look for the thread vnci vdi or similar. It is a massive read. It will cost (£150ish for the adapter) and the subscription to the service is like £15/day. The updates are flaky as a flaky thing, be prepared to spend a whole day if you do all modules and ripping your hair out. You will need a...

I'm done with my dealer. Help needed!

Interesting to know. I went the whole hog and got a vci and did the lot. The heater is much much better and I’m convinced the BMS updates did something positive in how far I can get on a charge (well it seems like I can cram more in if I’m honest).

I'm done with my dealer. Help needed!

Really it needs SIPS connecting and updating the last bits (HVAC and some other module I forget) to get the full effect. I believe not doing it on an SE meant the AC offset temp wasn’t fully resolved and it broke bits like charge limit on models with NMC batteries. After the pains of updating...

Mile range on a MG4 EV LE SE model (Feb 2023)

New updates reset what it has learned before. Could be that. Could be change in weather/driving patterns. Could be software - I had an early bird standard range SE and without a doubt after I spent a lot of time putting the updates on - I could cram more into the battery and it started doing...
