    V2L

They used to be a lot cheaper - mine was £10 + £3.99 delivery on eBay. I’d prefer one of the proper type two ones with with sockets on a lead but for how infrequently I use it - not worth the expense. I’ve got one of the covers so should there ever be a lengthy power cut I’d be ok with an...

    12V battery size

It’s a bit of a story - including it being left open for a considerable amount of time. Boot open and someone putting the car on charge when it didn’t need it for quite some days despite it being 80% when left with them. Me thinks the 12V went flat and they tried to recover it !! The app was...

    12V battery size

Just got round to fitting a new battery in preparedness for winter as the battery voltage has been getting a bit on the low side and it’s 2 years old. Erm the 027 I have doesn’t fit properly unless I’m going mad the front bracket doesn’t fit as the battery is longer ???

    Charging during a Brown Out

Not sure on the specifics of the MG but it should be fine (unless the power is very very dirty and bouncing up / down etc). Many cars like the Tesla being very American can go from 120v. Generally there is a rectifier circuit that goes AC to DC, then a chipper circuit that turn the DC on and off...

    Water in boot lid

I have it back and I asked what do I do if it leaks again. Go back to the dealer you got it from ? Time will tell and it’s minor in the grand scheme but keep losing the car has really put me off it as this has been going on since last November having bought it in August. 4 visits to 2 dealers...

    Service costs

OH has just bought one basically the same milage. They have said it can have a low mileage service as it’s below average which knocks it down to around £300. With an auto box the fluid changes are always pricey. I remember years ago paying the best part of £200 to get my Jatcos drained and...

    Key died temporarily

Any issues with the TPMS sensors by chance ? Not with my 4 but a Chrysler - when one of the sensors went flat / well stopped functioning I couldn’t use the central locking at all until it was removed and replaced as they run on the same frequency as the key.

    Preparing the car for winter

I’m 100% going to silicone the charge flap, on a few occasions last year I was driving all the way to work with the flap firmly lodged open. If I ever get the thing back from having the swimming pool drained and sealed I’m actually going mental and putting an agm battery on that’s just arrived.

    Battery (12V)

I’m pretty sure they fit a nasty cheap standard flooded lead acid 027 the same as my MG4 (oh has plug hs phev). Tayna batteries list AGM 027 for the car which arrived- they have good prices too. As I understand you can upgrade so go from flooded to efb or agm but not the other way. Personally...

    ISmart is your car online?

They have been adding this sort of thing for years, it’s just that we see it now. I believe one of the 1st was GMs on star, they could use it to do all sorts of remote things in the event of the car being stolen and this was long before we had EVs. The Ismart app on my4 isn’t great, it often...

British Gas and Hive free charge question about installation

Same here. They won’t unloop because it’s overhead and they want to do underground now apparently but they aren’t too sure on who owns which bit of road. I’ve given up, load limited charger stays (which will slow down if I’m hammering everything which isn’t great).

    Water in boot lid

Well (see what I did there) they have had it a week. I call them and after my somewhat irritated nature on dropping it off (it’s not in my nature to be that way but needs must) they are reluctant to give it back so another week will pass. According to them it is as watertight as a sponge. They...

British Gas and Hive free charge question about installation

I believe there needs to be an application with your DNO to install before it goes ahead. This is to ensure there is enough capacity and also checks for if supply is looped etc.

    unreliability survey

My own patience is wearing thin. 1st gen SE. So far I’ve had - swimming pool in the boot since November it is on its 4th visit to 2 dealers on Saturday (I fear I’m getting a bit ratty now as it keeps happening and smells when it dries), knocking track rod after 7k which was replaced and having...

    Water in boot lid

After the monsoon my leak is back. Urrrrgh out of ideas. Due to work I lose my car for a week each time. Last week was out of it because of a puncture. Feels like not much point having an EV at this rate as it feels like I’m forever in another car. Dropping off at dealers on Saturday, when I...

Somewhat irritated - Octopus price rise ?

As others have pointed out you would then have to have no electricity when they aren’t running. The renewables also get what is called CFD - basically they get topped up on price of electricity when the cost collapses and remember you are paying gas prices for their “cheap” renewables by that...

Somewhat irritated - Octopus price rise ?

Big problem with our setup. Wind and solar are a lot cheaper when they are running yes but when they aren’t you are extremely limited in what you can do - once the pumped storage is exhausted (1-2GW for a few hours at best) you need something else. The only thing quick acting enough is gas...

    A 20-month old new car!

I wouldn’t worry too much. As others have said grab the updates. I remember new Rovers being sold in 2008 - the factory really never sent out a new car after around Oct 2005, it’s just that you know it’s been done. Not that I know but you can expect it takes a decent while for them to produce...

Recommendations for online tyres for rear of MG4 Trophy LR

I got a puncture this week :( had one of these put on at Halfords (not the cheapest place but I used some points on works rewards platform). Fitted they look alright with a made in Italy stamp on them.

Can you have a battery and ev, and charge both on cheap octopus go each night and never use peak electric?

I was always thinking the same until someone explained. Some early adopters got FIT not SEG payments so they got paid for generation regardless of if it was used or sent to grid ergo better to use it yourself.
