No issues with using 3 pin EVSE here, including one mammoth 28 hour charge, just check nothing gets more than a little warm to the touch. FWIW get a type 2 cable so you can use the CPS destination chargers, they are not that expensive to use and give you another option before your EVSE is installed.

I've just looked back at my latest bill and for a 'bonus 30 minute slot' at 6pm I used 4.2kWh, so more than the Zappi consumes, but all of it was charged at 7p.

I'd guess as the EVSE is 'smart' and they are able to tell my Zappi when to boost, the Zappi can tell them how much it has added, after all if the car rejects the charge Octopus tells me they are unable to control the device.

One solution I have considered is to turn off smart charge and just use the 6 hour slot on a timer basis, that enough to go from 30-80% in one session. I believe you have to do one smart charge a month under the terms and conditions but that shouldn't be a problem especially if you have another...

I think you'll find if the zappi was installed correctly it uses one CT clamp to monitor the incoming current and will throttle back the charge rate if the total house usage would blow the main fuse.

I haven't found IOG limiting wrt hours with 2 EVs, put 50% in the MG last night, 90% going in the Kia tonight both on greener nights. Tonights smart charge started just in time to cook dinner so an extra little win there too. Currently averaging around 15p kWh overall so not too bad.

That's why I use a credit card, you have a larger window for them to be reversed and most of the time they just sit in pending authorisation so just chip away at the credit limit.
