    Bad month for solar generation

December 2024 looks like being a really bad month for solar generation. In the first 4 weeks my 4kW array has generated 44 kWh or around £10 (FiT) well down on previous years.

    Problems with granny lead

This has happened a couple of times to me recently. Both times it was because the cable hadn't locked in place. An unlock/lock cycle on the car cured the problem both times.

Do I really need an 'proper' EV charger?

I've had my MG4 for 18 months and so far and have used either granny or the occasional public charge (3 times this year). It works out fine 99% of the time, so long as you don't do long trips (100+ miles) on consecutive days. I tend to charge to about 80% then start the recharge process when I...

    Another run away ZS EV?!

the MG4 doesn't have a stop button, lust the parking brake and the big P on the drive knob. FWIW you can apply the park brake and leave the car in drive, using the drive knob P works like an ice autobox, puts it in neutral and engages the pawl to lock the drive and applies the parking brake.

    Charging Current

These only apply to AC charging, "AC current" indicates the max the charger will supply.

    All season tyre choices

My 2022 LR (on 17s) had 6 and 6.5mm at the first service after 8K miles.

Reducing non-Tesla access to the Supercharger network

The nearest ones to me that are open to non-Tesla are still showing on the app all be it at 65p peak/55p the rest of the time, not worth the round trip.

    Free Octopus Electricity

Ah but we can't resist 'free', I dread to think how much I spent at Sainsbury's on coffee/breakfast and extra shopping whilst charging my car for 'free'. Fortunately when they installed their Kempower chargers they removed the free Podpoints!

I'm with Octopus now - what EV charger do you chaps think is best?

Sadly not available in iSmart, I'm currently using the option to soak up some of the meagre solar excess.

First 'fight' with a Tesla driver ...

Yes, an option from the 3 dots menu, top right corner of thumbnail. MacTwatmaster was my first use of that.

    Vandalised chargers

IIRC a report from the US said there was a couple of $s worth of copper in a cable.

    Vandalised chargers

I guess they soon realised that EV cables have so many safety systems in they are pretty safe cutting them when they are not connected.

    Vandalised chargers

Had my first time of seeing chargers with the cables cut off yesterday. I decided to go skiing in Milton Keynes yesterday, despite setting off with 80% charge and GOM of 200 miles for a round trip of 170 miles the combination of cold temperatures and 70 mph roads meant as I headed home the GOM...

First 'fight' with a Tesla driver ...

Ive gone from 'subscribed' to not and he's getting close to 'don't suggest'

    Granny charger

Depending on your car/granny charger you may be able to limit the charge current, on the MG4 you can limit it to 6amps if you have concerns.

Have you checked the phone volume in the settings screen?

Some interesting comments on Nanny software in cars in general

I can understand that, the problem is I think these 'aids' can lead to drivers applying less attention to their surroundings than normal.

Some interesting comments on Nanny software in cars in general

The problem is they need to be fit for purpose. If the car keeps warning you when doing 70mph on a dual carriageway because it thinks the national limit is 60, when it picks up a 30mph limit on a side road or can't read the sign because it hasn't been cleaned or is partially obscured by...

    Any 3-D printing enthusiasts here?

Odd really, my Mazda turned them off once the handbrake was applied.

    Parking Charges whilst Charging

I agree, a small council run car park that allocates half a dozen EV spaces with AC chargers probably don't get much income from 'partner' that runs the chargers, lose money as those 6 spaces are not fully utilised. At an event in Sheringham last year, all the car parks were full and there was a...
