I set the Tapo to switch on 5 minutes before the car started the charge, and off 5 minutes after the car had terminated the charge. I found it useful to work out exactly how much energy was used and monitor the balancing process.
Oddly enough for the 22 months I used the 3 pin I would check the socket, Tapo (OMG he used a Tapo!) and plug each time I plugged in. Most of the time I just used the (then) 4 hour Go slot without any issues with just the occasional longer slot to use solar excess and one 28 hour charge! Now I...
Surely you'd pay more by having to drive around potholes. Around here at the moment there are multiple road closures resulting in some quite long diversions, another reason for rebate?
You seem to be very wound up by this thread, quite shouty and aggressive. I guess if your agenda is that EV drivers should pay the same as ice then you've made that point. I do consider that I pay zero if I use my solar, I get paid to generate (23p on FiT) and I still get 23p even if I put that...
No issues with using 3 pin EVSE here, including one mammoth 28 hour charge, just check nothing gets more than a little warm to the touch. FWIW get a type 2 cable so you can use the CPS destination chargers, they are not that expensive to use and give you another option before your EVSE is installed.
The other gotcha is getting back in the car with a wet windscreen and the wipers left on, it restarts just quick enough to flick the water over the inside of the door as you close it. You soon get used tom it, so much so that now almost every time I get out of the Niro I forget to shut the car...
We recently added a 4 yo Niro to the 'fleet' at home. The Niro is surprisingly quick and efficient given its bulk, built to last inside and I cannot fault the Kia warranty. We had a BMS problem which took the very average dealer a little while to confirm but the parts were there the next day and...
They do have some kind of filtering in place, 6 months ago if smart charge gave you a bonus hour or two it would be an extra day before the estimated price would show on the app (at full price) then another day or so before it was corrected down include the extra 7p slots. I currently have 3...
I've just looked back at my latest bill and for a 'bonus 30 minute slot' at 6pm I used 4.2kWh, so more than the Zappi consumes, but all of it was charged at 7p.
I'd guess as the EVSE is 'smart' and they are able to tell my Zappi when to boost, the Zappi can tell them how much it has added, after all if the car rejects the charge Octopus tells me they are unable to control the device.
One solution I have considered is to turn off smart charge and just use the 6 hour slot on a timer basis, that enough to go from 30-80% in one session. I believe you have to do one smart charge a month under the terms and conditions but that shouldn't be a problem especially if you have another...
I think you'll find if the zappi was installed correctly it uses one CT clamp to monitor the incoming current and will throttle back the charge rate if the total house usage would blow the main fuse.
I haven't found IOG limiting wrt hours with 2 EVs, put 50% in the MG last night, 90% going in the Kia tonight both on greener nights. Tonights smart charge started just in time to cook dinner so an extra little win there too. Currently averaging around 15p kWh overall so not too bad.
That's why I use a credit card, you have a larger window for them to be reversed and most of the time they just sit in pending authorisation so just chip away at the credit limit.
That probably explains why they still haven't priced my first 'greener nights' session as I used 54kWh that day. I'd let both cars get low in anticipation of the consecutive greener nights.
