Best practice for charging LFP batteries on MG4 se

Just about all the information on the interweb is based on anything from what they said at the pub to what they understood from reading papers written by enterprises that were using rapid aging techniques in an attempt to get the results in a few weeks rather than over 10 yrs. My experience is...

    Strange charging problem MG4 51

I will have to investigate further, the 700W variation between what the magic box says and what the car says means a lot of solar power would be wasted. I'd much prefer to waste the solar on running the air con rather the creating heat in the MG charger box. I just finished the first part of...

    Strange charging problem MG4 51

Mine reports a 700w loss, that's a lot of wasted energy when it takes 20 hrs plus to recharge the battery. I certainly need to do some more testing and research to determine if AC charging is even feasible from the motorhome solar and battery, maybe I need to research into direct DC charging...

    Strange charging problem MG4 51

Woken up this morning with the MG beeping its horn in a regular pattern. Turns out that the MG supplied granny charger has died after 2 weeks use  It had been plugged in for 2 days, the screen said it was charging, but it was still at the same 74% it was at 2 days ago. Dug out the Aussie...

ZS EV Mk2 51kWh LFP Battery - Not Balancing Massive Cell Deviation

ZHC and few copy cat brands out of China are the most common, but a few cell mounted balance boards that are controlled by a master that collects all the data via optic fibre or 2 wire canbus appear every so often where some electronics technophobe builds one for his EV project. One stand out...

ZS EV Mk2 51kWh LFP Battery - Not Balancing Massive Cell Deviation

It might happen one day, but it will be an after market add on, but active balancing using induction coils is the way to balance an out of balance pack quickly. It basically takes the current from the high voltage cell, and feeds it into the low voltage cell. All the time there is a differential...

    Slowing down warning messages

Well, that would take all the fun out of it ...... or .... I could reset it for when I'm driving and then set it back to 60km/h when she is driving ........ this could either be a lot of fun, or a few nights sleeping in one of the vehicles if she catches me  :ROFLMAO: T1 Terry By the...

ZS EV Mk2 51kWh LFP Battery - Not Balancing Massive Cell Deviation

With 12 yrs plus experience with over 250 systems to collect the data from .... you have a poor connection some where between the cell and the voltage monitoring device. If you can see every cell voltage, the give away that a bad connection is the problem, the cell either side of the low cell...

    Slowing down warning messages

I want a projector that puts all the warns up on a windscreen type display and a volume control so I can turn the beeps up, real loud .... just for the wife  Not sure how long I'll get away with that quiet mutter under the breath .... It's not just me that your driving scares, the car is...

What's all this about solid state batteries in the MG4?

Ahhh yes, the commute to work vehicle. When I was working at Favco Favelle on building the hydraulics packs for the big cranes, it was a 250km round trip, every day. An electric car would have been perfect for that job, free recharging each day at work. A lot of the fitter team that worked the...

How do you treat your MG4?

I have my doubts our MG4 will suffer such abuse ...... although I am a bit concerned about the fine spray the window washers produce ..... combined with the stuff in the washer water, it could be mistaken for a wash ...... T1 Terry

    Joke thread

Wife says to her husband, "I have something to tell you, please don't get mad at me" Husband replies, "Go ahead, I'm listening" "Before we first met, I was a Christian" "Why would I be mad at you for that?" "I've been so worried about telling you, do you promise you aren't mad at me?"...

What's all this about solid state batteries in the MG4?

We bought a Demo MG4 51 with 1,000 kms on the clock and 10 mths rego remaining. We paid $3,000 less than the new car price (until they conned the wife into ceramic tinting and paint protection .... for an additional $2,000 o_O) and I think we will keep the car till the wheels fall off or...

How do you treat your MG4?

That was a special external oil cooler and rust inhibitor system, not so much a leak as sweat from all the HP ...... it was also an oil level indicator, if it stopped dripping, there was no oil left ;) :D BSA had an addition feature where it would oil both sides of the rear tyre to make it...

    MG4 51kWh LFP Battery Health

No arguments there, an intelligent BMS communicates with the charging sources and throttles back the charge rate as the target voltage is reached. We are talking about the BMS in this drop in battery that I linked to as an example of deception by omission, this BMS is the very basic dumb kind...

    MG4 51kWh LFP Battery Health

At 3.34V, I would have expected them to all be within a few millivolts. LFP cells, if they are within 50 millivolts at 3.45V, don't go out of balance until they drop below 3.0V, unless there is a serious high resistance connection between series connected cells ..... or the voltage sensing...

    Throttle Travel/Response

I set up the right side star button to toggle through the driving modes, the air con slides are by the left hand on the centre screen in home screen, so a button the steering wheel seemed a waste. Still learning lots about how stuff works, I doubt I'll get the explore all of it, not enough...

    MG4 51kWh LFP Battery Health

I'm assuming that is the computers assessment of the remaining capacity in the graph, or is it battery load in kW? As I've said previously, you can't fully charge an LFP cell at 3.4V, the internal resistance will beat you every time. A rapid charge to 3.6V, then drop back to 3.45V, and allow...

    Throttle Travel/Response

As our 51 is still very new to us, the "normal" throttle response was everything we'd hoped for .... and maybe a bit too much at times ..... not accelerating past 50km/h when we had pole position at the lights took some careful pedal applications. South Australia is broke so they generate big...

    MG4 in Australia

My nerves have settled a bit now .... I was panicking that the 51 was using way too much battery capacity with a 102km trip to Royal Adelaide Hospital requiring 37.83 kWh to bring it back to 100% SOC .... the wife pointed out that it was the second trip and only 14 hrs recharging on the granny...
