The money was good back then. Had to be to pay for all the engine reconstructions  The mechanics bay at the servo I worked at had a graveyard out back with blocks and crankshafts and heads, all slant 6 225 valiant engines  Learnt a lot about identifying weak spots and building...

    V2L without the lights on

My MG4 runs with the car locked, but I do have to set it up in the centre touch screen, otherwise it turns off when I lock the car .... took a few false starts until I found that one, and it was freezing cold out near Braidwood in the river gully known as Wari Reserve. A very quick walk from the...

Maybe a property out in the bush and live underground, Coober Pedy style ;) Or semi underground with a packed earth walls and a soil roof to grow your vegies, backed into the side of a hill ..... T1 Terry

Are we watching an empire collapse in real time?

That is more dooms day prepping, I doubt it will come to that, but stocking the shelves with long life products when the price is good, has always been a good investment. If it did all go to crap, hard copies of practical, easy build projects from scrap parts would be a great investment ...

Copper will hold value for a long time, you can store that at home. 1 mtr bars 19mm sq weigh just under 3kg and priced at $405 at the moment, but these people sell 1kg ingots at a better price https://www.moneymetals.com/buy/copper/bars/kilo-copper-bars Silver is predicted to go up in value...

What you having for your Tea/Dinner, tonight. ?

Nah, after a few drinks at the pub for your birthday celebrations, someone would get the dirts when you claimed you were only 1/4 of your real age. That progresses onto bets when you say you can prove it, then you show your birth certificate and claiming the Oliver Twist loop hole regarding your...

    Frozen Mornings

Have you tried WD40 dry silicon spray around the bits that are freezing to the point they won't move? I have to admit, besides my 2 yrs in Tassie, serious freezing problems don't often occur on the Australian mainland ..... T1 Terry

    Production ready solid state battery

The problem is, the modern cycle testing methods. A heap of rapid charge and discharge, maybe 500 cycles or 1,000 cycles, measure the degradation and extrapolate a cycle life down to .... what ever capacity the manufacturer wants really, they are paying for the testing after all, so down to...

    Issues with Range/Power usage

The problem in our case is, that is a 12 km hill and it must be climbed, 7.5kms in the first bit, the rest in the next bit, after that, they sort of balance out .... naturally, regen doesn't return the energy lost climbing the hill, but it helps ..... letting the car speed up above the 110km/h...

With out Canadian heavy crude, the US refineries need Venezuela's heavy crude to keep producing all the petroleum based products the US needs .... Even if the invested big $$ in either fixing the Venezuelan infrastructure or building new refineries to process US sweet crude, which can't produce...

    Issues with Range/Power usage

Driving slower certainly reduces consumption, but you also have to avoid being a rolling road block. The rate you accelerate from stationary up to speed and the rate you accelerate to change speed will save battery draw down. On the long climb out of Adelaide, we use the cruise control to flip...

    Parasitic drain on 12V battery

With the clamp part of the multimeter around one of the positive cable (not sure how many are on an MGS5) leading from the battery, can you see a DC current being drawn? Try it with each cable ..... the problem will be if the draw is intermittent, catching it when it is actually drawing current...
