There is actually a flat finish powder that is mixed with the paint to make flat black, less for matt finish etc. I guess they add the flattening powder to the clear coat rather than the colour coat ... That way, a quick coat of clear with the correct ratio of flattening powder, brings back...

I would think MG and the insurance repairer, will see the only suitable repair would be a full replacement of the section of the wiring harness .... not an easy or cheap job ..... enjoy your Christmas and give your MG extra love, it might be the last Christmas it sees ..... T1 Terry
