    Braking prior to crash.

Every car manufactured after 2022 must have an Autonomous Emergency Braking AEB system fitted as standard. How the system is implemented by each manufacturer and how well they work is down to individual circumstances for each situation (e.g steering input, pedal input, radar sensor, camera...

Charging Flap / Door not opening

When you think about it a fuelling flap, which is what we are talking about, might have been used once a week or even once a month in an ICE car. For an EV you could be using the flap 3 or 4 times a day for a longer journey. However, very few, if any of the manufacturers seem to have redesigned...

Merged thread: Automatic Emergency Braking activating for no reason

As with a lot of issues it is more about how a dealer/manufacturer responds to their customers rather than the issue itself. AEB systems have been mandatory on all UK cars since 2022 and phantom braking scenarios are not unique to MG. However, when they happen they can be scary and the fact they...

    Software from factory

It also takes 6-12 weeks for a car to ship from China to the UK so any factory ordered car potentially has software that is already a month out of date compared to production cars.

Octopus and BYD announce UK's first electric car bundle with free charging

Not seen all the specs and T&Cs but on paper it looks like a good deal. Not much info on the BYD site about discharge rates but they say the V2L on the Dolphin is rated at 3.3kW, you would hope the V2G is a higher rating

XPower in shop, Trophy on loan

MG seems to have a stonking £9k - £10k off for MGS5 sold in June, there are a least a dozen on AutoTrader at the moment

A proper TV program about EVs tonight on Channel 5.

Would now like to see them do "Are Fuel Vehicles Safe" and apply the same reporting criteria. https://www.fireprotectionengineering-digital.com/fireprotectionengineering/q1_2025/MobilePagedArticle.action?articleId=2048906#articleId2048906

    MG4 Problems

The top of the centre screen should give an indication of signal strength for the SIM in the car (as well as your phone signal strength if connected via bluetooth). The car SIM is how you get things like weather data.

Social Media influencers are useful idiots but......

Would agree that the West has been party to just as many human rights infractions over the years as any other nation and if we worked towards a true Global economy where each country did what it was best at and everyone pulled together for the greater good there would be fewer wasted resources...

    I've Succumbed!

Looks like MG put some offer in place to knock around £9k off the price in June

Social Media influencers are useful idiots but......

Some interesting insight from Jay Emm on what a manufacturer expects in return for a trip to review one of their cars

    Boot width in cm?

I find this site has the best set of dimensions for most cars but it doesn't look like they have had a chance to measure the MGS5 so might need a trip or phone call to a dealer with a tape measure https://www.ridc.org.uk/features-reviews/out-and-about/choosing-car/make/mg

    A question about Regen

This is from the MG4 manual but the same is true of most BEV/PHEV cars, as you have already surmised a full battery is not able to accept more charge from regen (or any other source)

    X Power in Sport Mode

    iSmart Update to 3.0

Managed to unbind, then rebind and now everything is working again, only thing is the Climate and Seat Heating buttons take you to exactly the same screen so seems pointless having both

    Why only 50% charge?

If you are new to EV's you may find the Jerry Pan YouTube channel useful as there are lots of MG4 specific tutorials, this one is about charging and the max level is discussed from about timestamp 12:00

    OHME crowdflex trials!

What we got back from CrowdFlex covered all of the costs of keeping my wife's Mini topped up so that's been about 9 months of free fuel

    iSmart Update to 3.0

I am in the group of car not recognising the binding correctly and asking me to get the previous owner to unbind. Only thing I can think would be the issue is the fact the car is still on factory installed software which has not been updated since manufacture in 2023. Will probably end up being...

Slower than expected DC charging MG4 Trophy

Maybe try a balance charge AC session (take the charge state to less than 10% then all the way to 100%), then try a DC charge again from around 20%. The charge curve on my XPower is up to 140kW/h between 10% and 50% then drops to the 70kW/h ish speeds between 50% and 80%, then drops to the...
