    Pre-purchase questions

To get a certain NCAP safety rating every car has to start up with certain settings turned ON. Each manufacturer has chosen to implement the way you turn these off in different ways. So it is not so much the car forgetting things but resetting them to the NCAP standard. If a manufacturer...

Have I made a terrible mistake?

Best and worst range I have seen from the GOM (guess o meter) at 100% charge is 238 and 181 Best and worst efficiency I have seen is 3.6 miles/kWh and 2.2 Miles/kWh which is real World 222 to 135 miles from a 100% charge. That is from a mix of Winter and Summer driving and Motorway and around...

    BMW Meh

Just drove home in the Mini Electric and even that felt more engaging than the BMW, so for me I think it was the suspension set up as much as anything that was the reason. But I guess the iX1 is set up as a family SUV so understandable.

    BMW Meh

Had to take the wife's Mini electric in for a software update recall and have been given a BMW iX1 3.0 as a loan car, compared to the XPower the iX feels wallowy and slow. On paper it is 5.6s to 60 which now feels monumentally slow agains the XPower's 3.8s also can't see how BMW justify £20k -...

    Pre-purchase questions

Understand all that but the OP history with MX-5's would suggest this as a reference point. The change from ICE to EV will also mean a completely different engagement experience. If you are into finding the power band in the rev range, juggling 3 pedals and exhaust sounds, that will not be...

What's all this about solid state batteries in the MG4?

This hasn't stopped the EV experiments... VAG - reverting to drum brakes for the rear wheels (as regen provides brake force) Tesla - removing all steering column stalks Steering wheels - becoming yokes or playstation controllers Cyberster - up and down doors Seating positions becoming higher...

What's all this about solid state batteries in the MG4?

You have to consider where EV development is in comparison to ICE vehicles and expect that even in the short term 5-10 years there are going to be more advances in the drivetrain tech. This would suggest that todays tech will be ZX Spectrum or Sinclair C5 specification in a few years. If you...

Probably won’t get an MG4 again

All the AI search engines say you will get 10- 15 years and up to 200,000 miles from an EV motor. So a longer life than an ICE motor, considering that is with zero servicing, it seems pretty cost effective.

    Pre-purchase questions

The other thing that you might find is different is the weight of the Cyberster, compared to an MX- 5 or an Elise. Potentially twice the mass to be shifted in the bends.

    New to ev

I would never trust the speed recognition, some of it can be GPS driven from known (out of date) information and sometimes the camera will misread (side street angled signs) or totally ignore them (looking at you tiny 20mph signs). Use it as a guide but always make sure you are aware of the...

EU MG4 (all variants) - Service campaign SC077 is out, improving lane assist performance

Where servicing and warranty data is not being recorded correctly, the dealers and MG are handling personal data so must comply with GDPR principles. I suspect if you start asking them for compliance and data officer details they might be more responsive as these type of requests will hit them...

    Throttle Travel/Response

I would say for me the only thing to adapt to was when taking my foot off the accelerator to gauge how much regen was being applied.

Windows misting up in cold weather (on the inside)

I have found in both my car and my Wife's Mini Electric that the inside of the windows do seem to accumulate more of a film than in petrol cars, similar to when I owned diesel cars. So you end up having to wipe them down with a soft cloth more often. Maybe just poor air filters in the car
