Yeah - I'm on the solar soaker tariff structure, there's no shoulder tariff. You are still on the now obsolete three rate TOU. It will eventually be retired. https://www.essentialenergy.com.au/-/media/Project/EssentialEnergy/Website/Files/Our-Network/PriceListAndExplanatoryNotes2025-26.pdf...

With the 1 July electricity price rises, I've changed plan back to the Powershop EV Day plan. These are our new rates: Our home battery gets installed tomorrow, so I don't expect to import much energy outside of the free energy period each day. The daily supply fee is pretty ordinary, but...

To use or not use A/C in hot weather

Aircon (cooling) is a heat pump, what it's not is a reverse cycle heat pump which is what the euro option will be. Yup. Our aircon is left on permanently, can sometimes need it in winter if the car's been in the sun. Just a matter of whether it's set to 22, 23 or 24 °C.

That's one of the weakest arguments alive. Nitrogen filling for regular cars is both costly and inconvenient for no benefit to ride, handling, performance, wear rates, or vehicle efficiency/economy. Just inflate your tyres for free. Or waste your money. I don't care. Just don't BS people...

There is no evidence nitrogen filled tyres will last any longer than air filled tyres. It's just a waste of money which can instead go towards your next set of tyres.

Keeping tyre pressure even helps keep tyre wear rates even. I don't wait for a tyre pressure warning to inflate a tyre which loses pressure a bit faster than the others.

Over time the air in tyres will naturally increase the proportion of nitrogen.

There is a no difference in temperature induced rise in tyre pressure between air and nitrogen filled tyres in regular passenger vehicles. You've spent $30 to solve a non-existent problem.

Annoying "features" when using a tow bar

Essence 64. No idea about the trailer hook. Mine was after market: https://www.mgevs.com/threads/mg4-in-australia.13438/page-83#post-357455

Mine does not. I need to manually activate tow mode.

I normally inflate to 39 psi with my portable compressor. Other day I brought the rear right back up (that's the one which loses pressure first). Yesterday was a warmer than normal winter day and with a drive to Coffs and back, pressures came up a touch. They will have dropped back overnight

The Ideal Gas Law says no. PV = nRT Same temperature rise contained within the same volume results in the same change in pressure. Where it can be different is if there is a phase change involved, e.g. water into water vapour. Nitrogen gas is naturally drier than air. But you are taking on...

O2 does leak faster than N2. N2 is a relatively larger molecule (not by much but it's enough to slow the rate of loss down). It will still leak however and so maintaining pressures is still required and it costs more money and is less convenient. It's a waste of time and money for normal road...

I'm getting a bit more home battery now - after discussing it my wife suggested we up the battery to the 32 kWh option and we are also getting a dedicated EV charge station for her car, which will be integrated with the Sigenergy system for smart charging from solar and super off-peak if needed...

I use the Home Assistant SAIC MQTT Gateway (Python) add-on to gather data from both of our MGs, and I also have MQTT server inside of Home Assistant as well as InfluxDB and Grafana in Home Assistant to be able to chart such things. This is some info when I started...

This is what I got (I'm currently on the EV Night plan): I will be discussing this with them in due course, as well as checking other options. Our home battery goes in next month so I am less concerned with import tariffs as I am with the daily charge and having some periods of free/uber...
