Leaving the car for most of February

Good find. Nice of them to describe it as "12v Battery" throughout the manual, except there :D

What would make public charging better for you..?

How many miles? 5 miles? Then 15 minutes charge will replenish it. 10 miles or more? Are you really driving for 20+ minutes for 15 minutes in the shop?

What would make public charging better for you..?

I think a lot of us are stuck in an ICE-hangover mindset of "got to fill up", and of going somewhere specifically to charge. Then in EV world, that translates to going somewhere specifically to charge, and needing something to pass the time while the charge happens. We need to mature past this...

Leaving the car for most of February

There's nothing of the sort in my manual PDF, searching for "12v". It mentions disconnecting it if the car's involved in a collision and won't start, and if the car gets immersed in water. Nothing about storing it for long periods. The manual mentions that the car can top up the 12v battery...

What would make public charging better for you..?

If you can charge at home, why would you charge at your local supermarket at all? You just wouldn't. So rapid chargers at supermarkets might be for visitors from further away - and those people are fewer, so you need a couple of 100kW+ posts for them, and lots of cheaper 7kW posts for locals...

Leaving the car for most of February

I've returned to my old, second hand, ICE car after several weeks away, to find the 12v battery dead. But that was a long time ago, and the car was an old rust bucket. The only way an MG4 is going to not work after 4 weeks, is if it has a fault. Personally I wouldn't go out of my way to...

    Charging energy consumption

Yeah, but that's no use if you've charged from a dumb charger, a 13A or a Commando socket. I suspect that the charging power from a granny charger is pretty consistent, while the battery is actually charging (then drops for balancing if you leave it plugged in). Faster chargers deliver...

How much do you spend on charging?

Now, early in January I was 100 miles from home with 10% SOC, and applied my rule of "pay for convenience", so I found the nearest 100kWh+ charger (still about 8 miles from where we were staying), and plugged it in for half an hour while I got my FitBit steps for the day. 10% to 80% in 30...

    Consumption

It does seem as if what REALLY kills m/kWh is very short journeys in the cold. A few trips like that and your range estimate plummets. But then when you make a longer journey, things recover. As you drive, the battery warms up, and starts performing again.

    Charging energy consumption

As far as I'm aware, this isn't available. It's definitely annoying. For example, a couple of weeks ago I was in an AirBnB that had an outdoor 13A socket. Actually I didn't notice until the day we left, so I didn't use it. But if I'd noticed it earlier, I'd have asked the hosts' permission, and...

Range decrease due to cold weather [merged thread]

Most of the time we potter around within a 15 mile radius. We have occasional 150m+ motorway journeys. We always notice the range estimations plummet after those journeys. On one journey, Google Maps sent us on 60mph A-roads with bends and hills, rather than the M54 and the faster roads beyond...

    MG4 lane keeping assist

Oddly, I never noticed LKA, and I've got a few posts on here saying I didn't find it a problem. Last month we got a full software upgrade from the dealer (in an effort to sort DAB radio issues, among other niggles). And now I notice LKA a lot. My wife has always turned it off before every...

How much do you spend on charging?

Well under £10 in Oct, Nov, Dec according to the Ohme app. No public charging was required in those months. But it's misleading, because my wife gets free charging at work (how long this will last, we'll just have to see). Our home charging is 7p/kWh because I'm on Intelligent Octopus, but...

What would make public charging better for you..?

There's a place for 100kW at supermarkets -- for people using it as a service station. Say, you're driving from the East Midlands to a holiday cottage in West Wales; stop in Leominster Morrisons on 20% charge, charge it up to 80% while you use the loo and quickly buy some groceries for the...

    MG5 rear seat, belt buckle!

Same problem in the MG4. I too have just moved my daughter up to a booster seat. I haven't the tools or the skills to copy your wooden solution, but I'm eyeing up this product on Amazon. Anyone tried it or similar? https://amzn.eu/d/cqHOsBU Or maybe just shove a load of foam in the hole...

Advice about buying a charging cable

I agree it's slightly irritating, but for the number of times it'll be a problem, I see why they've cut that corner. 22kW chargers are fairly unusual even in public, and 50kW ones are increasingly common. There aren't all that many circumstances where you'd not prefer a 50 to a 22. (And I'm an...

    Pre heat

Yes, if you happen to want to precondition during a low-price slot, it'll be charged at the low rate. So will, by the way, any household electricity you use at that time. So if you plug in at 7pm on a Sunday and your Ohme app tells you it's scheduling some charging at 8pm -- stick a load of...

    Low pressure tyre warning

This is all too much fuss for most people. It's easy: You WILL get a pressure warning when the weather turns colder. This is expected. Go to a garage with an air machine. e.g. Tesco. Set it to 2.5 bar. Go round the car taking off all the valve caps. Put 50p in the machine Stick the wand on the...

    Pre heat

The point here being that when the Ohme isn't scheduled to supply power -- it won't. So you need to use the Ohme scheduler's "preconditioning" section, to tell it to supply power at that time. So if you set a schedule that says "Departure time 8am, add 80% by then", because it knows about...
