    MG4 Range

My Trophy is sat on the drive right now showing 60% and 145 miles. I reset the accumulated trip meter at the start of May. It's showing an average of 3.8 miles/kWh (from 250 miles). I'd say that GOM is reflecting my recent driving pretty accurately.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

I'm pretty sure some of the ferry companies are looking at this. It would be fairly easy to offer on board charging and would be very useful on the longer crossings. Banks of rapid chargers in waiting areas are also an obvious addition.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

There are way more rapid chargers in France than in the UK, conveniently located in hubs at motorway services where you'll likely be stopping anyway. Lots of new hubs appearing at French supermarkets too. France is actually much better for public charging than the UK.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

No. I've learnt from the early days that a couple of minutes' planning is everything. You wouldn't turn up at a port just before a ferry desperately needing to charge before getting on it. What's the worst that can happen if you're in a bind? You have to call your breakdown provider to get you...

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

I think you've set the bar way too high ?

Anyone used Charge Map in Europe?

You put your payment details into your Chargemap account that's linked to the card. I've had one for years but I usually use other ways of paying such as Shell Recharge and Electroverse. Shell is pretty comprehensive across Europe. Electroverse is good for Ionity.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

I've also been driving EVs for six years. Never stopped me going anywhere. I've taken EVs to all corners of this country, to Paris, Belgium, South of France and Italy. Never failed to get a public charge, never had to use a granny charger. Does that count as a guarantee?

Anyone used Charge Map in Europe?

Never heard of anyone using Chargepoint on foreign trips. Popular ones to use are Shell Recharge and Octopus Electroverse.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

Yes, this is more likely I think for most EVs. Lighter and, importantly, cheaper batteries that do similar range. It’s probably a decade away and will start appearing in new cars rather than today’s models.

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

You see these announcements all the time. In reality, what goes into your regular EV is improving incrementally. Manufacturers can’t economically develop a model and replace it the next year with a new one that has a revolutionary new battery chemistry. They’d quickly go bust. Models such as the...

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

At the moment, greater range is being achieved through bigger and more expensive batteries. You’ll be waiting a long time for an EV that does 350 miles at 80 mph. That would have to be a 150-175kWh battery. At least that should give you plenty of time to save up as it’ll likely be damn expensive...

Testing the range of the Trophy MG4

I don’t drive my EV like that. 200 mile round trip at the weekend, A34, M3,M27 driving at speed limits. Had 13% left on return (Trophy 3.7 miles/kWh). No need for hypermiling. On a longer single journey I can add 100+ miles in the time it takes to have a pee and grab a coffee. I’d be doing the...

Lane Assist Trying To Kill Me!

Mine is a March 2023 delivery. It resets lane keep assist every time but it retains the sensitivity setting. As a result I have it on all the time and it’s no bother.

Anyone else driven a Tesla 3?

I had a model 3 SR+ for four years before getting my Trophy. The only thing I really miss is autopilot on the motorway. Other than that, the MG4 pretty much does all the essentials just as well or better and can do a few things on top (carplay and V2L). It has more range than the 2019 SR+ and...

    London to Wales on M4?

Beware of Tebay southbound. Half a dozen new rapids there won't solve anything. It's a regular queueing spot for Teslas on the Tebay superchargers. It probably needs another 20-30 units but they can't get the power to that remote site.

    London to Wales on M4?

There are 24 supercharger sites open to all in the UK. Considerably more of them on the continent. Download the Tesla app to see them. They are often a cheaper option too.

MG4 is a huge leap forward

Agree. I've come from a Tesla Model 3. Biggest praise I can give the MG4 is that I'm not missing the Tesla at all.

Lane Assist Trying To Kill Me!

Am I the only one who doesn't find this an issue? Mine is set to low sensitivity (it's a Trophy) and I never turn it off. All I ever get is a gentle pull and vibration ?‍♂️

    London to Wales on M4?

I'd always want 20 miles in the battery when I stop, particularly at motorway services where rapids can be unreliable or occupied, unless they are new multi-rapid hubs.

Picking up MG4 tomorrow - then straight on 500+ mile holiday trip

At least it'll match the sky on this rainy bank holiday weekend ?
