    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Yes it is for ICE automatic transmissions, but I suppose about the same is happening in EV transmissions?

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

In 2008 Hyundai Motor Co patented their invention 210 of leaking fluid into the breather. I don't believe that MG designers are ignoring the need for this.

My Yanmar diesel also has a one way breather. Thats marine and water is the enemy

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

If its foam, Shell is doing a bad job. There is 1 client for this pretty new developed transmission fluid I saw: SAIC. More likely: when pressure is building up in the gearbox, a mixture of fluid and air is rising in the tube. Those 'fluid air bubbles' are leaving the breather after some time...

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Hi Jumad, I think the MG4 is a good car for the money. I am driving my second Renault Zoe and want to buy the MG4, but a lot of software issues and 2 hardware problems. Never had that in the Zoe, but Renault started in 2012. My advice: wait by buying the MG4 till those problems are solved.

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

The Shell E fluid is especially designed voor EV's, I read. It is supposed to be in the gearbox for 'lifetime' (180.000km?). One thing is very bad for this fluid, forming foam: air. Thatswhy a 'one way' breather is used: air comes out under pressure. When the fluid cooled down, the ball in the...

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Good to hear. Thanks for your 'homework'! Do you think that 'vacuüm' might also be part of the problem?

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Okay I assume that some oil mist is normal. The MG 'Z' solution still leaks by a lot of cars and the 'Macadoodle' not. Iam wondering if the reason is the different length and/or the stand of the breather: upright in the 'Z' (maybe vacuüm problem) versus diagonally (less chance on vacuüm).

Thats no oil beneath the orange cables?

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Good news! Maybe there isn't any leak so far because the oil is building up in the 'Macadoodle' if the MG breather makes a vacuüm? I am not sure about that, maybe you can look sometime if thats the case?

Then you still need a breather without ball to prevent for vacuüm problem, if I am right with my 'diagnose'

That person can check if there remains some oil in the transparent tube after driving. If so, a breather without ball bearing should solve this. Like this.

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

The 1,5ml oil that WigglePig mentioned, isn't that much. The 'Z' breather could contain that, I think. Maybe its building up in the 'Z' in more drives? When the gearbox is cooling down, it can create a vacuüm in the 'Z' that holds the oil?

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

I suppose the ball bearing is for preventing dust to come in the gearbox. If so, and the same breather is placed in the 'Z' solution breather, could it be that some oil remains in the 'Z' when the air in the gearbox is decompressed, because the ball bearing prevents it from falling down?
