    Test drive that wasn't

I managed to get a test drive for a whole weekend. I asked the dealer not to charge fully as I wanted to test the car being charged on my existing home charger as part of my evaluation of the car. When I went to collect the car they had fully charged it! (standard practice I guess?). Just meant...

    Is Paint Protection worth it?

Use an indépendant detailer. It can take up to a day just to prepare the car prior to applying the ceramic coat.

    Local perks for EV owners

On launch day I'm sure they said the first 2 weeks at Gridserve were all going to be free to use, or am I dreaming?

Cold weather range test completed today...on my driving it’s really very good.

We think we have trouble which regen figure to set either 1,2 or 3. I have just been discussing this with a Honda e owner and there are a total of 7 settings. 3 different levels in 1 pedal mode and 4 levels in 2 pedal mode. Decisions decisions lol.

Whatever the regen is set at the optimum is to keep the power meter as close to 0 as possible. Travelling x miles for no power.

They are brilliant figures. Presumably no headlights or wipers? Interesting though you 'lost' miles from the original GOM whereas I 'gain' miles from a starting point of 130+ when achieving 4+miles/kW. Never tried that distance in one hit but you have now inspired me to give it a go. Thanks Mark.

    Service Plan for MG5

Sounds like those prices are at the top end but probably typical of London area I guess? Depends if you get top end service and how far you are prepared to travel to get a few bob cheaper. My ZS plan is not quite as steep as that (about £60 less fro 5 years) in Sussex but I have been happy with...

    Full charge range

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what the GOM is telling you, it's what you are actually achieving that matters. As your journey progresses just comparing actual miles travelled against reduction in GOM will give the best indication of how far you might be able to get before...

    Very efficient car

I got 4.2 miles/kW on a 120 mile trip yesterday outside temperature was a steady 12 degrees. Mixture of A and B roads plus some light town centre driving at 20-60 mph overall. Normal mode with region at 3 is where I leave it all the time. My accrued mileage about 1500 shows average of 3.9...

GOM - Accuracy at last 20%

Yesterday I got the first warning at 1 bar showing 33 miles range left as I was approaching an Ultra charge point. When I connected up it said 25% so I think that is exactly in line with what Mike said in his very detailed post on SOC. (Thanks for that info Mike - very useful to know). Rather...

    Green plates

Dealer on the Podcast group discussion said they would not be fitting green plates as standard. Only on customer request. Check with your dealer is best either way if you want them or not.

Buying a cable for public charging

If you are looking to future proof then you should look for a 3 phase type 2 cable which will permit charging at 22kW when you have a car that is capable. They are less than £20 more. I know the MG max is 7kW on AC but if you are obviously thinking of future upgrades. Depends on whether there...

    Car mats

Good idea to protect the drivers side over the winter especially if you have a high use in wet and muddy conditions. I haven't done yet this winter but usually use an old rubber mat from the vast collection over the last 50 years. I can usually find one that is a similar shape and some of them...

Average cost of a 7kW home charger!

I found BP Pulse (ex Polar) to be fairly quick once they have all your information. Just a couple of weeks although they did say they were struggling to keep up with demand during Covid.

Charging questions and Zappi wall charger questions

I tried that whilst rapid charging today and nothing came up on the charging screen although I didn't have the doors locked. Will try locking the doors next time and see. I did manage to get a 35kW rate consistently from 3 different units today at 12 degrees outside temperature. The first unit...

    Car mats

If you're going to keep the car for any length of time go for the MG ones. Difference in price between them and aftermarket ones over x years is next to nothing but will look much better when you come to sell it. I went for the package of mats, mudflaps and boot liner which is very smart. Haggle...

    Interesting fact - Power consumption

Really! What is the heating system? It doesn't appear to be very efficient on the MG compared to the Mini e.

    Interesting fact - Power consumption

I agree. I would think the HV battery is for propulsion and dc to dc charging of the 12v battery only. All other power requirements would come from the 12v battery.

    Coldgate?

Likewise I used the same rapid units with my BMW i3 over the last 4 years and achieved much closer to 50kW even on cooler days.

    Coldgate?

I got my car at the end of September and haven't been able to better more than 30kW/hr rate on Rapid or Ultra charge points. Quite disappointed but not too concerned at the moment as I'm only driving within 50 mile radius from home. When 'normality' returns I hope to resume long distance...
