I've found that if the driver's door is open (like you are looking for the white lines) the car will go into D or R but as soon as you accelerate and the parking brake goes off, it will drop into neutral. A bit disconcerting if there are obstacles downhill!

I don't think that releases the charging flap - I think it unlocks the charging cable so you are not trapped at a charge point.

No - a three phase bridge rectifier uses the 400V between phases rather than 230V phase to neutral, and the higher power from the smoother rectified waveform. And even if you could link the phase terminals, you'd still need 96A with 100A being the DNO limit for a single phase supply.

Getting the charge ended was very quick - not much more than a minute though it being early on Easter Sunday morning might have helped. And although the charge is showing on the app, my credit balance has not reduced so it looks like I am not being charged.

I'd go for the Zappi for its smart features including ability to interface with Octopus Agile and solar. However it isn't the cheapest and you need to add £85 for the hub.
