    Home EV Charger Recommendations

Hi, who is your current energy supplier? The two Ohme's available work well with a number of tariffs from different supplies. The Zappi is a great unit but not everyone likes its shape. The Wallbox is a nice unit which works well with Intelligent Octopus Go.

    MG4 51kWh LFP Battery Health

What losses are you attributing to the balancing part of the whole charging regime, the 10% in charging inefficiency would be about right, but a total loss type balancing method used by MG and the time the charging system still running yet not really charging much, so the inefficiency there...

    MG4 51kWh LFP Battery Health

When I did my 4% to 100% and balance charge last month, the total kWh recorded in the Wallbox app was 54.08kWh. Assuming 50.8kWh battery capacity (per ev-database/manufacturer) then delivered into the pack was 0.96 x 50.8 = 48.768kWh, so 5.312kWh in "losses" or 90.18% charging efficiency. If the...

    Charging MG 4Trophy

I have an older ‘dumb’ 7kW wallbox so unable to accurately see input but on the car side of things it consistently shows around 6.1-6.2kW

    Charging MG 4Trophy

FWIW if I monitor a charge using both apps (iSmart and Wallbox) I tend to see a continuous 7.2kW in the Wallbox app and 6.4/6.5kW in the iSmart app ... until SoC reaches a high state of course.

    Charging MG 4Trophy

That seems low ... with my Wallbox it shows 7.2kW most of the time, with 6.4/6.5kW going into the car (on checking the iSmart app).

    Domestic charger location?

...If we ignore DC rapid chargers, then, technically the "charger" is the inverter within the car that converts 230V AC to DC. The EVSE or "wallbox" simply connects 230V to the car's AC input and communicates over a data link with the car via the SAE J1772 protocol to establish connectivity and...

    Domestic charger location?

Ahh so my EVSE supplies AC to my car inverter which outputs DC to my battery and Rapid Chargers supply DC direct to my battery. Got it, thanks. Sorry to hijack the thread.👴

Next time I’ll connect the dongle and check, now that the numbers seem to make more sense.

    Domestic charger location?

...was why you shouldn't charge in garages / indoors, i.e. car goes up and potentially so does house / family 🤔. Mine is located in a very snug garage and has been so for the last 5 years. It's a Wallbox Pulsar Max, professionally installed. Not gone up yet, but should I perhaps reassess/ rethink ?

    Reading SOH

...minutes for 1 percent on a granny that i use. So 98.1 through 99.0 would show as 99, and 99.1 through 100 would show as 100. If someone with wallbox finds it typically lasts closer to 10 minutes on 100% that would back up that theory, otherwise 🤷. If this value has a decimal place, that...

    First year stats

...up). My average calculated consumption was 2.91 mpkWh in my SE SR. 5039 miles covered and 1730 kWh stored into the car. (1954 kWh drawn from the supplies, so an average charging efficiency of about 87%. Most charges were from my Wallbox, but a number were also DC rapids and also "granny"...

    New owner charging query

Its not a problem for the battery charging to 100% at home or away but, as you say, on a rapid charger it will be very slow for the last few percent. The other thing to consider is that batteries don't like being left at 100% without being used. I have mine set to charge to 80% which is more...

    New owner charging query

Don't worry about charging to 100% on the home wallbox or granny charger, you'll not be doing the battery any harm. I charge to 100% every night and battery health on my car is a bit better than yours at higher mileage. The 80% 'rule' is more for DC rapid chargers and mostly because once you...

    Wall charger

Get a quote from your local EV wall charger installer to compare prices. You also need to ask yourself a few questions. Are you going to get solar panels sometime in the future? Are you going to get a home battery sometime in the future? Might you switch to Octopus Intelligent in the future...

    Wall charger

...Of course you can also connect via Bluetooth ... having a WiFi connection just makes it easier to connect to the charge point via the Wallbox app whilst you're further away. (I'm not sure if the charge point uses the WiFi to automatically download and apply firmware updates, or whether this...

I tried a Wallbox Plus for a while but I had to add a wifi extender as it needs a strong wifi signal.

    Wall charger

By Eon Wallbox Max I guess you mean the Wallbox Pulsar Max. I have no experience of that variant, but I've had my Wallbox Pulsar Plus for well over 2 years ... still working fine.

    Wall charger

I’m thinking of having a wall charger installed & as my electricity is delivered by Eon, I’m thinking of the Eon Wallbox Max. Does anyone have experience of this? Is this something he way to go or should I be looking at a different supplier? Any advice gratefully received

    Granny charging

I don't know if an electrician could do a decent wallbox install and if this would trigger an upgrade to the local supply but it may be worth asking one about your options. I am granny charging at the moment. I usually only do about 30-40 miles in a day during the week with longer journeys at...
