Hello!
So I have recently bought an MG4 Luxury.
At home we installed a Wallbox Pulsar Plus.
I have trouble charging the car at home. It barely charges. Sometimes I get the message: ‘Connected, not charging’. Other times if it does connect it only charges at 2kwH. And then it disconnects out of...
...for over a decade (scarily!), and we know that granny chargers are a back up option unless you rarely use the car. We always use the dual wallbox at home with no dramas.
However, wife’s nan is terminally ill and needs round the clock care, so she stepped into the breech for the last few...
Hi, I got my Cyberster delivered today. MG Thailand had a "Cocktail reception". The MG Thailand leadership team was there and gave speeches and presentations. 5 customers were present with my wife and I the only ones taking delivery today. The 5 customers received a special gift which was a nice...
...charging.
Consumption is down to 19 kWh/100km including first day spirited driving.
Tomorrow we go for a first little road trip.
Still no wallbox. Everybody is too busy to install. "If you are in hurry look for someone else" , but at least the MG installer will come sooner or later.
Tested...
Fairly simple, just a resistor:

Yes, by design:
a) to prevent ‘daisy chaining’ of multiple leads
b) to stop the charging process if one manages to pull out the type 2 connector
Just plug in your 3phase cable and start a...
...the dealer supplied. Oh well. It takes a bit of effort to roll out and roll up each time I charge (I have to reverse into the space, the wallbox is at the back of the space). I'm sure it's good for me. I use the 'roadie' method of coiling the cable, so I'm not dealing with a spring/twisted...
...until the car says "I'm finished" and this won't be issued by the car until balancing is complete.
So with connection to IOG via Zappi/Ohme/Wallbox balancing is automatic so long as the requested +N% amount is enough to cover the balancing.
With a direct connection between IOG and the car...
...2hrs of charging, but schedule 10hrs (MG4 LR 100% including estimated charge losses) and allow a 12hr charge window overnight, with Zappi/Wallbox you are going to game the system for an additional 4hrs of off peak.
With Ohme you will only game the system for the 2hrs of actual charging that...
The billing is different. With Zappi/Wallbox, Octopus bill all the allocated charge slots at off peak, regardless of if the car is actively charging or not. They don't seem to utilise the telemetry from the Zappi of when charging ACTUALLY took place to determine if it was off-peak. Octopus are...
Ok that makes a bit of sense...but in reality if you plug in with 30% at, say 5pm and ask to add 100% by 6am presumably Ohme / Octopus start charging right away so it's likely your peak evening use would be at the lower rate. Once the car stops charging (say it reaches 100% by 3am) you would...
...billing with Ohme means that you stop getting the cheap rate outside the core hours when the car charging stops: apparently with Zappi and Wallbox you get it for all the slots booked, whether you need it or not for the car.
Yes, my mother-in-law has the Ohme and is on IOG and I'd forgotten...
Ok, but I still don't understand: surely this is for Octopus to change the integration? Is there any good reason why it doesn't work this way for Zappi and Wallbox already?
At the moment it sounds like Octopus's own limitations are causing this problem.
...the user sets how much charge they require to Add. A fundamental difference that means the scenarios are not comparable.
Not with Zappi or Wallbox integrations. Hence why it is wildly open to gaming.
And if you have set the amount of charge you require correctly this situation doesn't occur...
Citing a source involves providing a link to where a reputable source has published the relevant information. I always try to do this to support my statements.
It's logical to hope that where there is a choice of car or charger, that Octopus would make the best choice for the user and use the car.
Almost. With a Zappi or Wallbox integrated to IOG. It is the device that is connected to Octopus that is the important part. You could have a Zappi and a compatible EV and have chosen to connect the Zappi to Octopus. Octopus don;t know the SoC of the car in these scenarios, it is your...
...the correct amount of charge and not forcing 12hrs+ of off-peak electricity.
The issue is specific to the Zappi EVSE integration (and Wallbox but that is a really small userbase in comparison). The Ohme EVSE integration has other loopholes that can be exploited like plugging in at 2pm and...
The Thai Wallbox installers not fully understanding the differences between single and 3 phase while disappointing is unfortunately not surprising. Depending what province you live in (I'm Chonburi) PEA has/had a program (which is however under review for some changes) that installs a 2nd TOU...
Correct, and with a nominal 4kW array it doest take a lot to the drop excess below 1.4kw. At least with FiT I still get 23p per kWh even if I use it so in truth the 70p was probably covered by the FiT payment.
