    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

No I have not noticed any mechanical issues with the steering at all and I have checked many times. It all feels pretty tight. Moving the steering with the power off I notice the the PAS motor feels almost like it is clutched in some way to the steering itself, but without taking it all apart...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

Thanks for the update. I have just replace the tyres (all 4) on my 5 and the problem is back, albeit not too bad at the moment. The tyre fitters were not too even with the pressures so I have now put them all to the recommended pressures and all seems ok... at the moment. I was hoping that...

Problems connecting to Rapid Chargers - and I'm not a Newbie!

Yes. Having little faith in the dealers getting anything right, I took the vehicle to a Rapid at the local Tesco on the way back from the service. The charger was not a type I hade used before (a Podpoint I believe), and I noticed straight away that the charge port did not lock as usual...

Problems connecting to Rapid Chargers - and I'm not a Newbie!

On my 2022 PFL it used to charge without locking the car. Charging update (for what I am not sure but hoped it was Tesla update) applied in January 25 . Now the car needs to be locked (plug in then lock) before a charge will initiate. Once the charge has started its ok to unlock the doors.

    IONITY

Interesting. My pre facelift 5 has just had its 3 year "service" at which I requested the Tesla update. To my surprise they said yes there is an update to the charging software listed and they will do it. Whether this was the Tesla update I have yet to discover ( I somehow doubt it) but I did a...

Out with the old, in with the new...

I have nearly always purchased second hand vehicles (the MG5 has been an exception) at around 3 years old. Back in 2003 I purchased a Peugeot 406 (top spec) at 3 years old for £6,500 from a dealer. The list price when new was £20K it was a high miles ex lease and I doubt the lease company paid...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

I am happy to be proved wrong but my money is on a tyre related problem. Yes its an odd feeling like the steering has developed a centre "indent" and I did originally suspect a PAS fault, but its far too unpredictable for that and wouldn't disappear when swapping or changing the tyres. I find it...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

Interesting to hear that it occurs on different brands of tyres too. As per my post above I swapped fronts to rears and the problem went away. But recently on a long motorway trip I noticed it had returned to some extent. I have not noticed it driving locally but time will tell. It looks like...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

Just an update for anyone digging this thread up. A couple of thousand miles later and no sign of the problem returning after swapping tyres. So I'm pretty sure its linked to tyre wear. Despite other threads discussing uneven tyre wear those on my vehicle are looking pretty even. Will be...

Not so “great news about your vehicle “

Estate cars are just out of fashion and have been for a long time. It would appear many purchased the MG5 as it was simply the best value EV around at the time, once the MG 4 arrived 5 sales plummeted. My local dealer confirmed this recently saying, whilst MG4 sales are still strong MG 5 sale...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

Thanks hOZ, that is pretty good description of the problem as it occurs on my PF MG5 too. Manipulating the steering definitely makes it go away for a while. I wonder if anyone has had this issue on replacement (non Bridgestone) tyres?

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

Maybe  In line with the other thread about this I have swapped the tyres (front to rear) and so far I have had no reoccurrence, but I have not had any trips out on the motorway network (where I origionaly found it worse) since the swap. The tyres are the original Bridgstones and the...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

I have noticed this problem recently on my (2 year old MK1) MG5 Only really noticeable on straight sections of road, locally and around town it's hard to detect. My suspicion is a power steering (torque sensor?) issue. But try as I may I can't detect any problem at a standstill which would...

    2nd Service - Poor Result

Checking the cabin filter is a good tip, I will remember that at the next service on the 5. Glad you let them know your displeasure :) There must be some good ones out there and It's sad to say it, but in general, you can't trust them.

    2nd Service - Poor Result

Sadly I have very little faith in main dealer servicing. For example. I had a full? service on my Citroen a few years back (to comply with the warrantee) that I have since concluded did little more than washing the car. Being an "old school" DIY mechanic I always check under the bonnet before I...
