battery range
An electric vehicle battery (EVB, also known as a traction battery) is a rechargeable battery used to power the electric motors of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) or hybrid electric vehicle (HEV).
Electric vehicle batteries differ from starting, lighting, and ignition (SLI) batteries, as they are typically lithium-ion batteries that are designed for high power-to-weight ratio and energy density. Smaller, lighter batteries are desirable because they reduce the weight of the vehicle and therefore improve its performance. Compared to liquid fuels, most current battery technologies have much lower specific energy, and this often impacts the maximum range of all-electric vehicles. Unlike earlier battery chemistries, notably nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion batteries can be discharged and recharged daily and at any state of charge. Other types of rechargeable batteries used in electric vehicles include lead–acid, nickel-cadmium, nickel–metal hydride, and others. The battery makes up a significant portion of the cost and environmental impact of an electric vehicle. Growth in the industry has generated interest in securing ethical battery supply chains, which presents many challenges and has become an important geopolitical issue. As of December 2019, the cost of electric vehicle batteries has fallen 87% since 2010 on a per kilowatt-hour basis. As of 2018, vehicles with over 250 mi (400 km) of all-electric range, such as the Tesla Model S, are available. The price of electricity to run an electric vehicle is a small fraction of the cost of fuel for equivalent internal combustion engines, reflecting higher energy efficiency.
I have the short range MG ZS EV and I embarked on a journey of 19 miles last night with double the battery range needed to drive there and back. A late night motorway closure added a small amount to the journey, but I was a mile from home, creeping about at under 30mph, chuckling to myself that...
Hello everyone
I thought I would introduce myself after jumping onto the back of someone else's question.
I have been lurking for a month or so and I have picked up my ZS on Friday.
I have been researching the car for months and although there are many EV's on the market I kept coming back...
Hi all.
Ive had my Mg4 long range trophy for 3 months, its advertised at 281 miles withnits 64kw battery.
When fully charged it used to show 276 miles of range, the last few charges it is only showing around 196 to 210 miles.
What has gone wrong?, its only 3 months old?, could it be an issue...

Just come back from a 5 day break from Nr Peterborough to Poole in Dorset. All was smooth and the hotel (Holiday Inn had some chargers). Made the mistake of connecting to the 7,5 kW and then I noticed it has an automatic extra £10 charge if stay longer than 90 minutes - this was in quite small...
went down to 7% on trip last night, at 8% the GOM gave up and just said --
has anyone got down to last few % points and kept going ? just interested if the % left is accurate and hence ok to go down to 1 or 2% ?
Hi guys,
Quick question!
I’ve got a 2019 ZS EV Exclusive 44kwh.
Only had it a couple of months, but I’m really enjoying it.
I’ve been getting almost bang on the stated 160 mile range. Combination of charging at home (with the granny charger) and at rapid chargers.
Today, I’m charging it...
Traveling a total of 280 miles (140 each way) on Saturday.
Trophy here.
I am very nervous about being able to do this on one charge (in fact I'm not going to try it - even assuming 100% state of charge to start!)
I can get to my destination and about 1/2 way back in 200 miles where there is...
I expect it has happened. I particularly expect it might have happened in the days when EVs had a lot less range than modern cars, and when chargers were fewer and further between. But now?
EV drivers don't habitually drive on until they're running on fumes. Most people leave enough wiggle-room...
Hi.i bought my MGZS in mid 2021 so it's 2 years old now..127,400 klms on the clock..its a TAXI. I was always getting 268/270. Klm on a full charge....NOW I am getting 350 klm on a full charge..and I can drive 8/9 klm and only give away 2/3 on the battery...prior to all this amber light came on...
My Zs ev LR does a journey of 86 miles twice a week.
Today for the first time my partner used the air con departing with round 95% charge. She has just rung me saying the car now says 15% battery and a range of 24 miles. I suggested she went to a nearby Morrisons to charge. Car wont charge and...
481 miles, 4.6 miles per kwh. Cruise control speed set at 60mph.
Best bits:
It got me there and back - as expected.
Other people at the chargers saved my life, told me how to get the charger to work and more importantly told me that to stop the charger you needed to reuse your card (makes sense...
In the near future due too work, I'll have to start using the public charging network. Up to now, home charging has served me well and the ability to go to 100% with no time constraints. Now here's where my "range" question gets interesting, bear with me please.
The FL 5 has a theoretical range...
I am suddenly getting less than the 63 kms l used to get from a charge in my HS PHEV. The car was bought in March 2022. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks.
I charge the battery to 100% yet the milage is approx 50 miles lower than it should be. I been told this can be reset, can anyone tell me how this can be done. Mg zs ev
Hi Everyone,
Potentially dumb question incoming!
I’m brand new to EV’s, having got my MG ZS EV in March this year. When I first got the car it was charged to 100% and was displaying a range of around 190 miles. I generally found that there or there about, this is what I got back out of it.
In...
My 1 month old ZS LR is now showing 174 miles range at 80% charge, suggesting max range of 217 miles. This has only happened after a 600 mile, heavily laden trip.
Is this because the range based on real time information or this my car faulty?
When I first had my car and fully charged it the battery range would show 32 miles...now when it's fully charged it shows 31 miles.
I only done 2400 miles since I received the car.
