electric vehicle

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. It can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or it can be powered autonomously by a battery (sometimes charged by solar panels, or by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator). EVs include, but are not limited to, road and rail vehicles, surface and underwater vessels, electric aircraft , and electric spacecraft. For road vehicles, together with other emerging automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and shared mobility, EVs form a future mobility vision called Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric (CASE) Mobility.EVs first came into existence in the late 19th century, when electricity was among the preferred methods for motor vehicle propulsion, providing a level of comfort and ease of operation that could not be achieved by the gasoline cars of the time. Internal combustion engines were the dominant propulsion method for cars and trucks for about 100 years, but electric power remained commonplace in other vehicle types, such as trains and smaller vehicles of all types.
Government incentives to increase adoption were first introduced in the late 2000s, including in the United States and the European Union, leading to a growing market for vehicles in the 2010s. Increasing public interest and awareness and structural incentives, such as those being built into the green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, are expected to greatly increase the electric vehicle market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns reduced the number of greenhouse gases in gasoline or diesel vehicles. The International Energy Agency said in 2021 that governments should do more to meet climate goals, including policies for heavy electric vehicles. Electric vehicle sales may increase from 2% of the global share in 2016 to 30% by 2030. As of July 2022 the global EV market size was $280 billion and was expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2026. Much of this growth is expected in markets like North America, Europe, and China; a 2020 literature review suggested that growth in the use of electric 4-wheeled vehicles appears economically unlikely in developing economies, but that electric 2-wheeler growth is likely. There are more 2 and 3 wheel EVs than any other type.

    Dead Battery and Won’t Charge!

Hi, I got my car in February last year and have been loving it until today! I set it to charge last night as it was just over 30% and this morning it is frozen up, stopped charging in the night at some point and is not responding. I assume the battery is now dead due to the cold, or needs to...

    Vandalised chargers

Had my first time of seeing chargers with the cables cut off yesterday. I decided to go skiing in Milton Keynes yesterday, despite setting off with 80% charge and GOM of 200 miles for a round trip of 170 miles the combination of cold temperatures and 70 mph roads meant as I headed home the GOM...

    Parking Charges whilst Charging

I am not sure if this has already been posted but it does get my goat when I want to charge my car and have to pay parking fees because the stupid charger is in a car park. If an ICE car had to pay to refuel there would be up-roar so why are we having to put up with this. To that end should...

It didn't charge at an Instavolt charger a few months ago but put that down to my inexperienced of charging. Yesterday it didn't charge at a pod point and today was a...

    Soft Outdoor Cover for Cyberster

Hello good forum people. This old fool has placed an order for a trophy which I've been told will be delivered end of January 2025. As this will be kept on my front drive and not in a garage I wondered if it would be sensible to have some sort of cover in case we get any extended inclement...

V2L is pumping water from House

Recently, for the first time, I made good use of the V2L function when I connected a pump to my MG ZS EV and pumped water from a flooded house in Opava, Czech Republic, where there were severe floods. There's no electricity anywhere in the area, so you can only use your own energy source. Some...

    MG4 virtual engine sound?

As I understand the Virtual Engine Sound System is supposed to be on EVs. On my Hyundai it was called VESS, although I could barely hear it from inside the car. My father in laws KIA Niro is really loud - like hear it from inside the house! Does the MG4 have this system as I haven't heard...

    Charger Rip Off

Don't know if this has come up before, but I have a choice of 3 chargers at Tesco near me, 50kW, 22kW, and 7kW. Obviously the slower you choose the cheaper it is. So yesterday I wasn't in a rush to I opted for the 22kW which is 49p. However, it only delivered at 7kW. Had I know this I would...

    How to see %age full

My daughter has brought her new (to her) XS down this weekend. It's been on my charger overnight and has stopped charging so I am pretty sure it is 100% full - but (even with the help of the manual) I can't see where to confirm this in the menus. The old style fuel gauge shows it as full but...
