pedal

The pedal steel guitar is a console-type of steel guitar with pedals and knee levers that change the pitch of certain strings to enable playing more varied and complex music than other steel guitar designs. Like all steel guitars, it can play unlimited glissandi (sliding notes) and deep vibrati—characteristics it shares with the human voice. Pedal steel is most commonly associated with American country music and Hawaiian music.
Pedals were added to a lap steel guitar in 1940, allowing the performer to play a major scale without moving the bar and also to push the pedals while striking a chord, making passing notes slur or bend up into harmony with existing notes. The latter creates a unique sound that has been popular in country and western music— a sound not previously possible on steel guitars before pedals were added. From its first use in Hawaii in the 19th century, the steel guitar sound became popular in the United States in the first half of the 20th century and spawned a family of instruments designed specifically to be played with the guitar in a horizontal position, also known as "Hawaiian-style". The first instrument in this chronology was the Hawaiian guitar also called a lap steel; next was a lap steel with a resonator to make it louder, first made by National and Dobro Corporation. The electric guitar pickup was invented in 1934, allowing steel guitars to be heard equally with other instruments. Electronic amplification enabled subsequent development of the electrified lap steel, then the console steel, and finally the pedal steel guitar.
Playing the pedal steel has unusual physical requirements in requiring simultaneous coordination of both hands, both feet and both knees (knees operate levers on medial and lateral sides of each knee); the only other instrument with similar requirements is the American reed organ. Pioneers in development of the instrument include Buddy Emmons, Jimmy Day, Bud Isaacs, Zane Beck, and Paul Bigsby. In addition to American country music, the instrument is used in sacred music in the eastern and southern United States (called Sacred Steel), jazz, and Nigerian Music.

My initial thoughts on One Pedal Drive

Had my Trophy for a few weeks now and decided to give one-pedal driving (OPD) a go over the weekend. My initial reaction was to hate it—mostly because I kept lifting my foot too high off the throttle, causing the car to slow down very quickly. I forced myself to keep using it, and over time, I...

Does the MG HS PHEV 2025 have a one pedal driving mode? If so, is it strong enough to bring the car to a complete stop without using the brake pedal?

What's the deal with one pedal?

Every time I change conduction mode, one pedal is automatically disabled. When i stop the car, one pedal is automatically disabled. It's almost like MG don't want you to use the feature at all. There's any reason for this?

One Pedal Driving post s/w update

Hello Everyone, I have an Oct 2022 MG4 Trophy (so one of the early UK cars). I was running R33 software for an age and after a protracted battle got my dealer this week to upgrade, under warranty, to what I now know to be ver R63. I was especially looking forward to one pedal driving being an...

One pedal driving interaction with ABS on slippery slope

Today I was on a street with steep downhill incline, I was using one pedal drivimg, but when the ABS kicked in the car just lunged forward (cancelling the hold of the car from the motor) until I pressed the brake pedal. Scary! I recommend not using one pedal driving on slippery downhill...

    Clicking sound from brake pedal

Got a MG4 Excite 51, Australian version (ones with rear wiper and rear headrest). Had it for about 10 months, 10,000 on the odo. Last week I start to hear clicking from the brake pedal. It’s clicking when I depress the brake pedal, does 2-3 clicks at around 10-30% force. Car also does a click...

Press the brake pedal for a change! 😮

A strange message appeared in my MG3 this morning. Here's the context: I take the car out of the garage, press P and leave the engine running. I get out of my MG3, keys in my pocket to lock the garage. The engine is still running. I get back into the car and the message appears on the...

One Pedal Drive + Heavy Acceleration

I posted elsewhere on the forum (link below - post #4)) about some rather concerning behaviour when OPD is enabled. Car is now with MG for investigation, but wondered if anyone else with an XPOWER has experienced the same? In summary: 1. Enable OPD. 2. Accelerate hard from low speed for a...

    Plastic accelerator pedal?

I just fitted a couple of VW-Audi-ish pedal covers. And I noticed the whole of the original accelerator pedal is plastic. The foot pad and the ‘stork’. I know it’s drive by wire and you don’t have to ‘stamp it’ but old habits die hard, So better go easy on it when your racing that EX30 off the...

    No to One Pedal driving

I love one pedal driving. I also have gen 1 MG4 and was sad I do not have One Pedal. I have changed my mind now. Since there is so much news on corroded discs, I am now of the opinion that we should be using our brakes regularly just to keep everything cleaned up. Now I am assuming that one...

    Regen braking when braking?

Not sure if this is correct but does tapping the brake pedal lightly increase brake regen? For eg, if I'm traveling along at 70mph tops, and then fully let go of the accelerator, the average regen power is about -15. However if I gently tap the brakes power goes to -25. Then if I press harder...

    Pedal covers

Well, birthday's approaching and daughter asked me if I'd like something for the car, bless her. Alloy pedal covers look promising. I've seen posts on here about them and will probably go for those. However came across these and oh, if only they did these for the MG4 ?.
