sat nav
A satellite navigation or satnav system is a system that uses satellites to provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning. It allows satellite navigation devices to determine their location (longitude, latitude, and altitude/elevation) to high precision (within a few centimetres to metres) using time signals transmitted along a line of sight by radio from satellites. The system can be used for providing position, navigation or for tracking the position of something fitted with a receiver (satellite tracking). The signals also allow the electronic receiver to calculate the current local time to a high precision, which allows time synchronisation. These uses are collectively known as Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT). Satnav systems operate independently of any telephonic or internet reception, though these technologies can enhance the usefulness of the positioning information generated.
A satellite navigation system with global coverage may be termed a global navigation satellite system (GNSS). As of September 2020, the United States' Global Positioning System (GPS), Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS), China's BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, and the European Union's Galileo are fully operational GNSSs. Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) is a (US) GPS satellite-based augmentation system to enhance the accuracy of GPS, with satellite navigation independent of GPS scheduled for 2023. The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) plans to expand to a global version in the long term.Global coverage for each system is generally achieved by a satellite constellation of 18–30 medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites spread between several orbital planes. The actual systems vary, but all use orbital inclinations of >50° and orbital periods of roughly twelve hours (at an altitude of about 20,000 kilometres or 12,000 miles).
My ZS EV has had a warranty claim due to a failed T Box (no activation, no SOS call, failed sat nav & weather report) for now nearly 6 months it has sat at EMG for 9 going on 10 weeks in a 6th visit to fix it.
I intend going to the Motor Ombudsman on Tuesday. If you have had a T box issue...
Has anyone managed to find map updates for the im6 ?
I moved into a new build about 2.5 years ago and my street isn’t even showing on the system. I would appreciate it if anyone can tell me how to update the maps. I’ve looked online and the mg map updater does not include im5/6
Thank all
Back from touring Cornwall from Yorkshire. Covered 1,200 effortless miles in the MGS. I mainly used Tesla chargers because they were cheaper and convenient (32p per kWh between 8pm & 8am. 57p at other times). The journey was totally uneventful, returning average of 3.9 miles per kWh at motorway...
Questions on a late UK Registered 2025 MG ZS Hybrid+ Sat Nav System
How long are the free updates for the Sat Nav System?
What is the current lasted Sat Nav System update available?
Who is responsible for providing this service MG or Naviextra as there seem to be a lot of confusion around...
Firstly has anyone with a new MG HS Hybrid + or PHEV got a Sat Nav manual? It used to be accessible via MG iSMART but is no longer visible to me. Were can I download a copy? I sent a request to MG directly, next to useless. Speak to dealer was their reply.
Secondly as a brand new car I...
Why is it when I use the sat nav everything works fine, distances in miles. But if I then switch to the home screen the mileage shown in the sat nav quarter is in kilometres and not miles. it's mile in the sat nav screen and I can find no setting that will change it for me. Anyone else notice...
Reading this post I see Sat Nav Updates are supported by Navieextras Toolbox has anyone used this for their MGS6 yet? How did you find the process, if you have?
At the moment there is no Mac support for the MGS6 so thats me stuffed, thankfully there's time for MG to remedy that situation before...
Hi All. My car has been back to the dealer a few times with the Sat Nav freezing on the current location when you switch to it. The location of where it thinks the car is, does not move. It's like it knows for a split second where you are then never moves. Every button still works so the head...
Hi, advice please:
How can you see the MG Sat nav map screen while also using the phone?
I was driving using the built in MG satellite navigation system, and then used the phone. The car display screen just showed the phone/dial view. Coming up to a junction where I needed to know if I need to...
Just a quick question l am going on my first long trip in my MG HS Hybrid+ down to Kent.
Just wanted to know is the in built sat nav any good.? Usually l would be using wase but just want to know in the in built sat is as good.

Just used my sat nav for the first time, and the voice volume was low.
After some searching (quite a lot actually) I found the answer to the volume control. Not under settings, as might be the logical answer.
No "swipe down on the screen" where you find a whole new world of settings...
Just a quick one (being a bit lazy here)
We're off to Bruges in France in a few weeks time, and planning to use the built in sat nav. I know the "UK" map works OK, but after we hop off the Eurotunnel at the other end, will the French map automatically come up, or do I have to manually switch...
Selling my MG 3 after major issues. My car has done less than 5,000 miles and is just over a year old.
I have had a number of issues. A brake fluid leak, Main screen going blank, sat nav regularly recalculating routes and the engine emissions fault.
I have had the engines emissions fault since...
Actually this has annoyed me for about 4 years (18 months with MG5). I could never find a setting to dim the satnav screen (android) at night). Every time I went out for a drive at night the android screen was obviously too bright and was burning my retinas out. I could never, ever find the...
Hi
Just got an MG4 and struggling with the Sat nav. It works fine when selecting any location it already knows, eg supermarkets and MG garages. However when I try and enter addresses / postcodes the keypad is greyed out so I can’t select a location.
Any ideas on this?
Sigh.
Hi all, Sat Nav update from USB failed, Nav now wont load and now won't allow me to try the update again.
Anyone have any suggestions for recovery? I've tried:
1. Complete reset to factory.
2. Ignition off and then on.
3. Reset by holding Home switch for 20 seconds or so.
No luck
thanks...
So I'm just wondering if the inbuilt satnav is any good.
I'm very satnav-curious. I try them all: Google Maps, Waze, ABRP, TomTom.... but I can't find one that's just right. Either too much bumff on the screen, not trusting the routing, adding stops etc. Obviously using the built in navigation...
Hi this forum is great for info so thankyou. My question is. Is there an update to the Sat Nav software? And if so how do we update please. I get to some places and the speed limit comes up 25 mph limit when it's 40 mph so it's the software as it's a 40 mph area and no other signs about that it...
