superchargers

In an internal combustion engine, a supercharger compresses the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement.
The current categorisation is that a supercharger is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered (usually by a belt from the engine's crankshaft), as opposed to a turbocharger, which is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gases. However, up until the mid-20th century, a turbocharger was called a "turbosupercharger" and was considered a type of supercharger. The first supercharged engine was built in 1878, with usage in aircraft engines beginning in the 1910s and usage in car engines beginning in the 1920s. In piston engines used by aircraft, supercharging was often used to compensate for the lower air density at high altitudes. Supercharging is less commonly used in the 21st century, as manufacturers have shifted to turbochargers to reduce fuel consumption and increase power outputs.

Charging my MG4 at Tesla Superchargers in Exeter

I see from ZapMap that the open-to-all chargers at the Exeter Tesco Service Centre (EX2 8FN) support contactless payment. Do I also need an app to activate it? I would like just to roll up and use my credit card at the charger. I don't have a smartphone which is why I don't have the app. Same...

MG ZS incompatible with Tesla Superchargers for ‘safety reasons’

So last week I tried charging at Tesla’s Supercharger station in Lifton, en route for Cornwall. Despite trying two different chargers, neither worked. The chargers were all fully functioning. Contacted MG customer services who denied there is a compatibility issue; called Tesla however who...

Tesla Superchargers - Bristol Cribbs Causeway

As I was dragged by the family to Cribbs Causeway today I decided to test out the Tesla Superchargers there as they are open to all EVs. I used the ones by John Lewis in car park A. If you're on travels along the M5, Cribbs Causeway is very close to junction 17 of the M5. There's plenty of...

    Testing Tesla Superchargers, Bristol

So today I thought I'd test out the new Tesla Superchargers that have been installed at Burger King, Eastville, Bristol. These chargers are open to all EVs, and as forum members have pointed out, are the cheapest way of rapid charging when out and about. There are 8 350kW chargers here. I...

I had to do 250 mile unplanned trip up north yesterday, left my house with 40% and proceeded to the Banbury Superchargers, this was my first public charge with my MG4 (only had it 2wks) I've also never used a supercharger before so was a little unsure of the process, well, everything went...

Facelift Trophy Charger Software Version (Tesla Superchargers)

I had my first service on my 1 year old Facelift MG5 Trophy, and as part of it the charger software was updated specifically so as to enable charging at Tesla superchargers. Unfortunately there is no difference -- it still fails to charge. I checked via CarScanner and OBD2 and the version of...
