Hi All.
Currently drive a HS so am okay with MG brand.
Do 300-400 mpw so petrol is around £70 or so.
Do lots of small journeys 15/20miles and occasional 100 round trips, centred around Grandchildren(3 of them 12/7/2so need space) school runs/school hols etc.
Had a rental Mokka e and was impressed with Electric(car was fun),so looking to go electric.Got on fine with Public charging but what a pain with all different apps you have to get!
However, can only do 3 pin granny charging.
The questions.
Am I roughly there on cost calcs,EDF EV is 5 hrs , so over week of 7 days should be able to charge fully plus another 20ish %,and then do a daily 4 hour peak top up to give around 400 mpw?.
At .09p per kwh night tariff will give (round down) approx 70 hours charging?so roughly £7 a week, and day peak another £15 pw?

Has the 5 got App charging as in can you set to when the car charges or will the Granny constantly connect and charge?Does it harm the car if it does?
Thanks for any comments/advice

The Granny charger only puts out about 2.5kW and will take a long time to fully charge your car. That said, you might only ever need a top up as you're not running it down too far in daily use. Use public charging only when you need to to keep costs down ofc.

One important thing to note when using the granny charger is that you must have a good quality properly wired socket to plug it into. It does not use a huge amount of power but it does run for a long time and the wall socket can overheat. The first few times you use it, check the socket often to make sure it's not getting too hot.

Granny that comes with the 5 gives 1.94kW (as per the App!). Rather than let it drop to 20% I keep within the 40%-80% bounds ('healthy mode' via the App) unless long trip.
Caution:
As previously mentioned keep an eye on 13 amp socket for heat build up. I have double (ip65) socket so alternate charging between each one. I always check for heat. Having had the ZS mk1 + new external sockets I then replaced the sockets when I got the MG5. Hope this helps.

Yes, the Facelift model has timed charging, but the original version doesn't
Depending on the speed of you short journeys your 5 hours of cheap granny charging is going to give you 30-40 miles of range so you can probably keep up with your usage most of the time. If you are getting a new MG5 from a dealer make sure that you have the charging update done so that you can use an open Tesla charger when you need to catch up your charging.
The apps seem a pain but if you put them all into one "EV" group on your phone they are a bit easier to deal with. Some of the apps are very good (Tesla and Gridserve in particular) at giving extra information.
