Just a thought for those who think the AC is not as cool as other cars. I was a bit bored today so I thought I'd give the AC a good workout, seeing as the car was sat in the sun (no tints) and I have a new clock and temperature gauge attached to one of the centre vents. I sat in the car, on my drive and the new temperature gauge was showing 53 deg C. I put the AC on (*), full cool, windows closed, full fan and recirc on and in about 8 minutes the gauge was showing 5 deg C coming out of the vent and it took 2 miles off the GOM. I left it another 2 minutes or so and it didn't drop any further so I think 5 deg C is the lowest it will go. The cabin was nice and cool so I think the AC comparable to any other car I've owned, the lowest vent temperature I saw on my old 2008 MK4 mondeo was 4 deg C.

Nice work, was that in Normal mode ? Perhaps you could repeat the test in the other modes as a comparison.

I am pretty certain aircon is restricted in eco mode. I also found my air con was weak when I first had the car. The dealer said they had to pump the gas up 40%. Also it was not the first time they had seen the issue. Even fully operative I found in winter in eco mode it would not keep the windows clear - not helping the winter battery range. I think there are some posts on this from our Scandinavian friends.

Yes in the default Normal, I was going to try Eco to see what the lowest vent temperature would be, but I thought that because Eco dulls the AC I wouldn't get the lowest reading possible.

I've been using the AC quite a bit over the last week or so, but I can only run it for a few minutes at a time, because it gets too cold for me ??

Agreed, but I think that would be the interesting part. Maybe in sport mode it it will go even lower :)

Note that if you need a re-gas on your A/C under warranty, it's only covered for 6 months.

I saw a bunch of exclusions making a mockery of a 7 year warranty but would never want to keep one that long. I pity anyone buying a 4 year old car without doing there homework. I wander who would win the argument of air con degas due to leak / faulty unit

I have not measured the air in temp in my car, but it does not seem as cold as in my Merc. I could get a re-gas I suppose….

It's a common observation across a whole range of modern cars.

One of the common assertions is that the system is not fully gassed in a new car.

Yes cold enough, had a RAV4 1998 which could do 3 degrees icy cold even after 20 years, a/c was a £1,800 RAV4 option in 1997 when it was £350 on a Ford

Just drive really fast with head out the sun roof

I have been driving around the past couple of weeks testing various combos and found that the expected range on the GOM was exactly the same AC on or off when on Normal the range did improve turning the whole HVAC off. BUT to the Question of Windows really annoys me. I selected the display showing power usage and drove on straight road at 45 mph in ECO windows up AC on and then turned AC off and lowered all the windows and power consumption INCREASED 20%.

I use AC for comfort and enjoy it!

Exactly that is what a/c is there for, otherwise we are back to 70's motoring uncomfortable swealtering conditions in the cabin

It’s poor programming really - the fan only with no cool button will reduce predicted range. As you’ve commented cool button on or off makes no difference to this Prediction.

@Stormgrey I wouldn’t mind a while back in the 70s, 76 would be good - the roar of my Triumph Thruxton motorcycle, souped up Ford Anglia with 2000e engine ( no air con nonsense). Pre “woke” young ladies who new there own mind without needing “an influencer“ Mates that where happy to take the Micky out of each other without the fear of a law suite. Parents that you looked up to, a job where you learnt from your boss. And rock music………
