Advice on Granny chargers

Hi all, quick question on granny chargers. I gather the Cyberster doesn't come with one, so I guess I'll need to buy one. I'll be using it mostly to charge overseas (France, Italy etc). I was planning to buy a more hardcore plug adapter than a regular travel one, something like this - Heavy duty adaptors (worldwide plug options)

But as for the granny cable itself, are they all the same? Is there an official MG one recommended for the Cyberster?

Ours came with a granny charger and we have a euro granny charger as well. That said we virtually never use it as we have found fast chargers and 7kw where we go in Europe.

Cash I ask where you bought the euro Granny from? And do you think they're worth buying Vs using a UK one with an adapter?

We got a euro one with a DS3 as it came with both by accident and when we sold it we kept the euro one.

I suggest looking at getting a juice boost or similar

but we saw a version as we were leaving an EV charger show at excel last year for a lot less with euro connectors.

We were in a rush and could not buy but are going to Everything Electric to see if we can buy one there


You can buy on alibaba but you need a minimum order.

these are 3.5 to 21kw chargers so can do from granny up to the fastest you get without a fast charger. The one I saw at the show was around £200. I have asked if they will be at the show this month or if I can buy a couple for a discount

There is this product available from evconnectors.com, it comes with a 13A adaptor plug lead, but you can buy a euro adaptor cable as well for an extra £30. A bit cheaper than a juice booster but is limited to 2.3kw, whereas the juice booster is up to 22kw with the right connector.

I still use my 12y old "CrOhm EVSE1M63" which is a 43kW portable charger (3x64A). Back in the days I had a Tesla Roadster that could take 1 phase 70A.

I bought a 3 pin socket adapter lead from tough leads for plugging into my MG4 for emergency loads, a lot less than the MG version. I was very impressed, it is chunky, tough and well made. I also would always use this company rather than risking a foreign one.

I cant see why the Cyberster would use a particular granny lead.. they should all be 13A plug protected. I do have an MG one which came with my MG4 but they are basically all the same. I bought a Ford one off ebay for my wifes Renault Zoe years ago and thats been fine, in fact it has a longer lead than most.

My X Power came with the MG granny charger, it worked fine, just wasn't long enough for my needs (4m).. So ordered another one from Amazon (6m) which is also a bit quicker charging, for £90. Works perfectly, infact that's all I use.
