Hello all, I have an MG 5 EV (Trophy/long range, 2024 reg) and seem to have the same issue described in other threads where if I activate Google assistant microphone either via the button on the steering wheel or via the mic icon on the touchscreen, Google assistant opens the mic (flashy colours animation) for a second and then closes it again, and it doesn't hear anything I say. It will work sometimes, and not others, and I can't find a common theme other than if it stops working, it doesn't come back until maybe the next time I drive the car. Doesn't seem to matter whether I'm driving or stationary either as some others have described, it's just random.. so sometimes it works fine and other times it is ignoring me. Everything else works Android Auto wise, though it is buggy frustrating in other ways too (thats a whole separate thread).

I can't recall if it always did this, I think it happened with the last update the garage did but not 100%

MPU software Vers SWI83-29867-1300R17
MCU software Vers 83.3.5.0

I've seen the advice in an MG4 thread to switch off "Hello MG" which is not an option I have.. this sounds like a built in voice assistant which the MG5 EV doesn't feature I don't think, so I don't have that option. It's driving me up the wall as I get used to it working and then the next time I get in the car, it stops working again. Android Auto permissions on my phone look fine. It's likely just a bug, but I believe I'm on the latest software version.

I am convinced the problem will be with an app on your phone - you just have to find it. Start off with restarting your phone to clear /close all apps and then try with the car. I bet it will work fine. You then just have to work back when it does go wrong again to find the app you had opened to cause its failure. With me it was googlepay and this will still cause me issues if I forge to close it after use.

A few things to try (listed in the order that they are likely to fix issues on my car/phone combo):
Try turning off Bluetooth on your phone - Android auto will turn it back on again but it might get the buttons in sync.
Try rebooting the infotainment - Long (very) press on the back button.
Restart the phone.

Thanks for the tip. I use Google pay most days, so it could be that for me too!

Thanks very much, I've tried all that (apart from a phone reboot as I'm usually driving). If a reboot fixes it it's likely to be something running on the phone as the other message says. I'll see what happens.

Coming a little late to this but...

I have a feeling this is something being caused by Android Auto, or at least a recent update of same!

When I first had my MG5 PFL, I used AA via cable, but soon changed to wireless when I found the cable connection was not always "secure". Initially, following the change, the mic, activated by the button on the steering wheel, would always just work; now, especially on "first try", AA does not seem to "hear" the words and tells me "Oops, there was a problem with the connection" and to "Please try again". Usually, that re-try works.
