I’ve recently got a new iPhone (16 Pro Max) and Apple CarPlay won’t connect. The phone charges so the wire works (I’ve also tried 2 different wires), but CarPlay doesn’t work. It worked fine with my old iPhone so I’m not sure what the problem is!

Had a similar problem with another usb-a to usb-c cable recently and an iPhone 16 max pro.
Cable was data and power capable but a bit thin and not Apple Original. Will try again soon with other cables.

Having the same challenge - see the compatibility notes on apple.com

We are taking about the iPhone 16 here which has a USBC port, not lightning .

Do you mind changing the title of this thread to be more specific to iPhones with usb-c connectors?

Make sure you have carplay activated under the new phone settings?

Just tried my iPhone 16 with an USB-A to USB-C cable - worked for me. Unfortunately the cable is unbranded - but I think it was an Anker brand bought from Amazon

If your problem is hardware (length or quality of cable), using a small non powered USB hub has been known to help a few people. Worth trying if you already have one.

Just tried this and still not working 😢 the phone is charging so the wire works so I just don’t understand why it won’t connect to Carplay

Without wishing to resurrect the 'holy wars' of CarPlay connectivity & cable choice - you do need to ensure the cable you are using is capable of data. Not just power/ charging. Cable should have a specification / claim that it meets USB 3.0 standards

Mine did'nt connect yesterday .... I got a message on my Iphone saying "unlock the Iphone to connect". Just a thought for you to check.

I've also found that sometimes I need to wait for the car to fully boot up its software and press the brake to get into "ready" mode before I plug in the Iphone and get a connection.

Also I have a pack of these adaptors (USB A to C) :-

I think this was it!! Tried a proper Apple wire and it’s worked. Thank you so much!

Several people have installed wireless adapters, set with a 30s or so start-up delay, and use that for AA/CP (as applicable - mine is AA). Works really well. If I need to also charge my phone I simply plug it in to a cable connected to a USB adapter fitted into the 12V socket. (Which gives a much higher charging rate than that available via the USB A socket). :)

Can I ask which wireless adaptor did you go for.

I had the same issue at first, turns out you can't use the USB-C for Carplay, you have to use the USB-A slot.

What was funny is that it still didn't work with an official Apple cable, had to buy a cheap one off Amazon before it worked!
