Is it possible that in dimmed late afternoon light no symbols of the side and head lamps are shown on the driver dash?

I'm talking about really dim light. Thing is, it looks like it happens when I leave the highway and slow down for a trafic light. Before that, auto light (symbol shown) was on and side and main beam were on. After I passed the traffic light everything was suddenly off! Something similar happened during the past two weeks.
Mid october when I was waiting at a traffic light the high beam came on in auto mode.... which should not happen under 40kmh. It was dark, but everything was well lit. After that, I had some high beams in the middle of the town, or with headlight from cars clearly visible on highways. But the last two weeks are weird...

In some conditions mine are late in coming on and hopeless at doing it in heavy daytime rain. When I think that it's gloomy enough for lights and they don't turn on automatically I turn them on manually (like I had to with every other car bar one that I've ever owned). It suits me better this way than how they were before my first service a year and a bit ago when they would turn on in bright sunshine! I just have to remember to turn them off again when I stop or reset them to automatic when it gets a bit darker.

Mine is still OK. I had been running with the sensor bare, but after I got the R33+ whatever upgrade the lights were coming on too late, so I put a sensor cover on that let a bit more light through than the original, and it seems fine.

See this thread. Somewhere in there, are 3D printing files for alternative replacement sensor covers.
