Sadly, the 2024 MG3 model has not performed well in the Safety Testing game. Its worth reading the link. The car was not far off 4 Stars, in fact was within category on many criteria, but things like the lack of a centre front airbag saw it get marked down. Within its size category it is competitive. We have to remember that these safety testing regimes are constantly changing, and what would have been a 5 Star vehicle five years ago, is now lucky to achieve 3 Star. Much of this ranking system depends on all of the Autonomous safety features now considered necessary, and points can be lost more easily than in the past. Overall the MG3 is certainly safer than most category cars, and MG Australia is talking to SAIC about pushing the rating higher (and of course that likely means pushing the cost higher). It's certainly much safer than my 2015 Renault Megane, which had a pretty high Euro rating when new. It's a moving target.

I'm disappointed to hear this, although the writing was on the wall when the Suzuki Swift which comes loaded with all the ADAS systems on the base model, scored a similar 3 stars.
As you say, the goalposts are always moving regarding what constitutes a four- or five-star rating.

On a positive note, I think this might point to the location of a skip with a few spare sets of alloy wheels for an MG3 Hybrid +

In europe we are still waiting for the EURO NCAP result, which was promised to 5 stars few months ago but looking at that 3 stars only result... I am afraid it could be 3

Trouble is pushing the ratings higher, undoubtedly means, pushing the complexity higher, to the driver. Which means more pre flight checks, and probably less fun. 🙄🙁
