I was chatting with a mate who is adamant he'll never have anything other than an ICE car, which is fair enough, but he asked how much the EV battery would last and the cost of replacement, & I got to thinking I expect to be responsible for brake pads and tyres as they are a wearing component, but so is a battery, so that is irritating my worry bone now

Some people are replacing their batteries on very old priuses these days.

The smaller the battery the quicker it will wear out (more cycles), but also the cheaper it would be to replace.

I'd guess it would last 10-15 years and would cost about a grand for a new one at that point (assuming battery costs continue to drop), but it could last much longer and cost much less. Who knows what mechanic labour will cost in 15 years!
