Several times in the last 6 months or so the car has requested charging connection when 50% or more battery remaining is indicated. More recently (since the start of October) it's gone completely crazy (see the attached pics.) until I accidently let it charge to 100% at the weekend when it didn't ask for a charged but mysteriously added about 160 Km to the available range, usually 415 - 420.
I'll let my MG dealer know later today, but wonder if anyone else has come across this behaviour and, if it indicated a battery fault, what was the outcome?+

Mine always says "Please plug in the charge connector"
The added range could be because by charging to 100% the car has balanced the battery and reset the estimated range.

I believe that the text "Please plug in the charge connector" is to indicate that you will only get full information on this screen when you plug in the connector.
A voice will ask you to charge when you get below 21% (I think it is)
I also agree with Ian Key

Have you recently run the car down to below 10% charge then recharged fully to 100% and let the pack balance, on an AC charger, in one continuous charge? It's something that's recommended to be done every few months. If it hasn't been done, doing it might fix this.

FWIW mine ran down to 8% last night after I got home from table tennis. (I got the yellow battery warning on the road back to my house). :)

I let the car settle whilst I had my dinner, then put it on charge overnight to 100% and balance. iSmart shows 100% and 173 miles range this morning. (If I reset the accumulated total I'm sure it would change to be 210+ miles).

About a week after my first post, I Took my car to the local dealer armed with a couple of pages of pictures showing the "Plug In" reminder even with the battery as high as 98% along with some range estimates that would imply almost 600km on a full charge. They played with the main screen menus for about half an hour, compared them with another MG4, confirmed that I have the latest software installed and then announced that the car was fine (don't know how they figured that out) but the reports on the screen were wrong.
My command of Thai language was already stretched to breaking point, so with the aid of Google Translate I tried" "If the car is lying to me about the range and the battery state, what can I trust??" For some reason this elicited a round of charming Thai smiles, shrugs and whispered sidebars until finally one of the mechanics borrowed my phone, put Google Translate into reverse, dictated about 45 seconds of very fast Thai which mysteriously ended with a chuckle and handed the phone back as he headed off to confuse another customer.
The final verdict: "Your car need help. Maybe all cars same? I tell MG!

I'm still waiting to see how that works out.....

My screen always says "please plug in the charge connector". I think it's just a weird way of saying "I'm ready to receive a connection if you want to charge" I don't think the car is actually pleading for a charge. Or like Webhiker said above, perhaps it's to indicate what you need to do before you can see more info.

I only had a wacky range the day I picked it up from the dealer, ever since it sits consistently at 400km/100% (200km at 50%) which I think is pretty decent seeing as the WLTP is 435km.
