Sunday: this mornings Breakfast programme had a section on the distraction and functionality of modern cars "safety" systems . Nothing controversial but the MG4 got a dishonourable mention. Anyone else see it?
Sent off a mild rebuke email stating that the phrase "safety system " be replaced with "driver aids" and a reference to the fact that manufactures will not accept liability for any accidents/incidents regarding their lack of reliability and accuracy, which the article failed to mention.

Just watched it on iPlayer. The usual in-depth (not) article for breakfast television. I have to agree about the lane keeping, once or twice I have had to stop it from steering me into trouble. It has great difficulty where the lines are worn or faded, also somtimes detecting an arrow on the road surface as a lane line.

One question, on priority; would the collision avoidance override the lane keeping in an accident situation?

The speed limit detection very nearly got me in trouble with the law, when I was stopped for speeding at 40mph on a dual carriage way with a 30 limit (why!!). I tried to plead ignorance and then the observant policeman pointed to the indicator on the display. Fortunately he was so amused by my response he let me go with just a telling off.

In France all villages and towns are 50kmh unless signage differently, the village name entry plaque and exit plaque being the limits boundary. This is not recognised by the speed limit detection camera and so leaves the previously posted limit as the one to proceed through the urban area, alright if you are in the know , but anyone using the "intelligent" version will be in for a shock, when grabbed by the Gendarmes. Dour, no sense of humour, with guns! and that's the nice ones.

I turn it off anyway (just like BBC Breakfast!) in pre-flight checks, as it's useless everywhere - but in France, I agree, totally redundant. Over there, I tend to leave on Google mapping via AA purely because it is a bit more accurate - so long as you look out carefully for all the odd 80, 30, 20, and even 10(!) kph signs set to trip you up ... and of course all the flashing headlights to warn of upcoming sneaky Gendarmerie speed traps.

"I turn it off anyway"

is this the dashboard icon that tells me what the speed limit is, by reading the signs as i pass them?
How do i turn it off in an MG5?

i generally ignore it, but it is distracting.
& it never shows when i am in a 20mph limit.
& it often misses signs that are too wide from the windscreen camera - if i am in Lane 2 of three, and the new speed signs are only on the pavement or to the right of Lane 3, the car never sees the sign.

Once you've started the car, press and hold the OK button on the steering wheel... quite a long hold before it goes away...

Over to an MG5er ...

... and again, in LHD Europe, with an RHD car, it looks to the wrong side of the road, can't tell that they are in kph (despite having everything else set for European data) so gets in a total mess. Ugh!

Another trip along a road that is normally troublesome with the LKA and post SC077 update it was fine, plus the ACC didn't want to slow down on the sweeping bends like it did before the update. Happy Bunny

I felt it responded to the criticism made in the BBC item and may be useful to someone who might think that it hadn't been corrected by a software update.

Apologies - indeed it does that ... it is just that there are now so many threads covering - or being taken over by - the horrors of LKA, that it tends to detract from several OPs as it's so emotive. Agreed that the SC077 update does improve LKA a tiny bit (only for me) plus one or two other settings towards comfortable rather than always on-edge driving. But I still turn it off along with several other annoyances that try to tell me how to drive, when I've had no accidents using my own judgement and common sense over the past 60+ years' driving. There - it's taken me over again!
