Has anyone removed the black vinyl roof covering? I had another layer added on my silver 77, not sure how long it will last, so when I have to remove it is there continuous paint on the roof like the other models?

I’ve never given that much thought but I doubt it’s painted and then wrapped. I would assume it’s piano black trim, like for instance the mirrors.

Maybe @T1 Terry can have a look at his donor MG4? I assume he won’t be transplanting the roof for his project?

hmm... wouldn't it be more complicated to avoid painting the roof when the rest of the shell is painted?

Yeah maybe.. But wouldn't wrapping all those roofs be time consuming? I'm tempted to think it's some sort of plastic piece that just gets bonded to the roof, which is probably painted, but I don't think you can remove the piano black and be left with a pristine painted surface. But I have no idea really.

The black does extend below the roof line, and when you open the boot lid, you can see it is vinyl wrap. The question is (as suggested by the sign writer), is it a full proper paint job underneath, or a half arsed job just good enough for the vinyl cover? My experience with vinyl wrap is limited, but if the finish of the paint job is average, it will shown through the wrap. So I am leaning on thinking its probably a full finished roof like all the other colours and models. But I'm not going to try removing it without a bit more evidence.

Ever since I got mine 18 months ago and heard it was a wrap, I've looked at the edges of the black on mine and thought - it doesn't look like a wrap to me. More like a masked paint edge that has lifted slightly when the tape was peeled.

Who is willing to pick at the edge to be sure?
