Does anyone get a acrid burning smell when first starting up their ZS? Not sure it is is the HVAC system or electrical malarkey but my can definitely gets a strong whiff sometimes. 23 plate MG ZS long range.

the only slightly burning smell that is OK would be when you first start the heater after not using it for a while so you get the usual whiff of burning dust that accumulated on it, but not as if wires are burning. If you think something smells funny, check it sooner rather than later.

Yes, mines the same (MG ZS 2023 facelift), and it does it even if I've been driving previously. It's only on start up and only with the heater on. It certainly does smell like burning dust (like the old electric heaters used to). I'd love to know what it is. Most certainly related to the HVAC though.

Same with mine so it seems you never vacuum your car either, just like me ...😂😉.

Joking aside, it's normal that a bit of dust gets on the heather element, as you say, just like old electric home heaters... It happens when the car interior is cold, heater starts on high setting to warm up the car quickly and then you get that bit of "old times" smell . I don't know but it could be that there are 2 elements (for low and high heating) and that the second element is not used that often... Just guessing but as is, it doesn't bother me much, just makes me think about lost battery range ...😅

Haha, yes how did you know! Yeah funny enough I don't mind the smell, reminds me of the old days. I've been plugging mine in every night and trying to forget about how much the cold weather impacts on range. I've only got the standard range too.

I only get this is if the car is started and put into eco mode and the fans are switched on. If the car is in normal mode and is then switched to eco, it doesn’t happen. (Suspect I might have a fault with the fan…)
