I had a similar problem just trying to get it to work on the drive but once I started the car as if to drive it connected with no issue.

Car Play and charging only works on the USB-A port. USB-C does not work at all, even for charging. My local dealer says it is a known issue they also have with other MG models, and they are waiting to hear from MG in China.

The USB-a port only seems to work with certain cables I tried over 6 different ones before finding one that worked. This cable worked for me.

Cheap wireless CarPlay dongles from eBay seem to work okay. Although I find there sometimes can be bit of a delay before it connects.

Thanks all - the USB-A port is the only one that works, yes... and its charging, and occasionally even switches on CarPlay. Imagine my excitement when it worked the first time! But in reality it rarely starts, and always stops again for no reason - sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after a few minutes. Its going into the garage this week, and while i dont have high hopes that they will be able to fix it, i will post the result. btw, does anyone have any issues with the screen access - my touch screen is not super sensitive, often have to poke hard! After using an iPhone for years, this seems not very 2024.

I’m having similar experiences. Some say concurrent Bluetooth interferes with wired CarPlay others say the cable used is super sensitive but I’m thinking it is basically a bit flaky/ I will be interested in what garage say but I start equally sceptical.

Hi, I also get about a 25-33% failure rate with the touch screens. I've been told its the lack of moisture in my finger tips and lack of collagen due to my 70 yr old fingers! Hmmm,,,,,my mobile screen or galaxy pad work fine with my old digits. :) In the early Cyberster prototypes I was hoping the "joy sticks" on the steering wheel would operate the screens to the left and right of the center display. up, down, left, right and select would have meant no need to ever touch those screens. I also have challenges with the climate screen touch sensitivity. (Compounded while moving). For the screens flanking the center display If I scroll too quickly through the selection menu with the button on the steering wheel the screens "freeze" and it takes about 45 seconds for the response to clear and catch up. In reality for most things I rarely make changes while underway and for the temperature adjustments I sometimes use the row of physical buttons as sliding the selection can be frustrating. The user interface is not the Cybersters strong suit. But its a small price to pay for the overall outstanding performance and mechanical operation of the very good driving dynamics.

I have been having very flaky behaviour with the CarPlay wired connection to the USB-A socket (my USB-C is definitely just power not data as per the manual).
I had been rather sceptical of the assertions that some cables just didn't work particularly as I could get mine to work sometimes.
So then I bought some Anker cables as several other contributors have advised and clearly my scepticism was misplaced - it now works like magic and regardless of Bluetooth status (in fact once plugged in the iPhone - car Bluetooth is dropped).
Mine is iPhone 16 with USB-C connector and this was what I bought .....

If I plug in a usb-c converter into the usb-c socket on the car (the one on the right) and then plug a usb-a to usb-c cable into my iPhone it charges !

So I can now have a phone plugged into the usb-a socket for CarPlay

And the passenger can have their phone plugged into the usb-c

Hooray
