Did my first Rapid Charge today at an Osprey Charger in Carmarthen.

The Charging rate and percentage disappeared from the dash readout pretty quickly, so I was unsure whether the charge was actually taking place. Opening and closing the door did not bring it back. I also tried locking and unlocking, but to no avail.

The only way I could see it again was to switch on the start button, and switch it off again.

Another surprise was that almost every thing was working again when I switched on again, including the sat nav and radio.

And finally, it seemed to do a 100% charge, giving me 165 miles. This did not last, and almost as soon as I drove it went down to about 130 mile. Maybe that was an 80% charge which I thought was the usual thing.

Not really a problem, as I got what I wanted, but just not by the expected route. Its nice to know what to expect..:-)

If you drive off with the cable connected......you cant....I tried that inadvertently yesterday! ?

Tried to do that with my boat, It got electrified for certain..:-))
I have a little trick for you that I found the other day if sitting in the car with the doors locked and the motor switched off; just push the brake pedal and the charging status will appear as if by magic...???
Thanks a good tip...:-)

I did my first long return trip today, stopped half way at the same Shell rapid after driving about 85 miles (mix of motorway and A roads tootling about 65mph) and was happy to get about 49kw charge. Very surprised how quick it charged the car up. Charged up to c85% at which point it dropped down to about 25kw.

Interesting - my range after a charge is now around 129 miles - the dealer said try overnight a trickle charge it may change the battery memory - this did nothing work it - it only gave me 121 miles - could be the colder weather - any views - it’s way down on the 164 miles range advertised by MG

The range given by MG is the WLTP range that is performed under strict restriction on all new cars and is done on a rolling road where the car undergoes varying speeds over different distances etc.
in real life the range (also mpg in an ICE car) on any car is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to, acceleration (smooth or erratic), speed, weather, etc
the range meter in the MG (commonly known as GOM - guess ometer) is calculated based on recent driving style and is a guide to how far the car will go with its current charge (no pun intended) assuming the driving style remains the same.
Winter weather, cold, wind and rain will affect the GOM so you’ll notice much less range in the winter than the summer.
as mentioned, you get this impact in a petrol or diesel car too but we don’t notice it as the range isn’t as much of an important factor
hope this helps

Give it time to settle down and adjust to your driving style; temperature will obviously have a big impact; what’s your current average miles per KWh at the moment?
