Charging on BP rapid charger for the first time

I have a charge amperage of -50 amp on the cars display and 4.3kwh on the charge ‘pump’ display.

Is this the normal for CCS rapid charger ?

Now after 17 minutes of charging it is at -63 amp and 6.8 kWh

The display shows how much current you are using, so a minus number shows how much it is charging.

It looks a bit slow. If you multiply the voltage with the amperage you get the number of watts being supplied.

368 x 51 = 18,768 = 18.8 kw

If it continued at that speed for a hour it should give you 18.8kwh of extra battery.

If you're getting 18.8kw of power for 17 minutes it would give you 5.33kwh of extra battery.

17/60 x 18.8 = 5.33kwh

So 6.8 kWh after 17 minutes is about right if the amperage/voltage is creeping up.

Attached are the charging details from BP. So 23.5 kWh used in 1 hour. So about 5p per mile, going from 106 miles to 186 miles.

I guess that as the charger was in a pub car park it may be supply capacity limited and can’t supply at 50kwh.

If you went from 106 miles to 186 miles of range then you were probably at more than 50% state of battery to begin with.

Rapid chargers charge quicker at lower battery percentages. The fuller the battery the slower it charges.

So 23.5kw sounds about right. If you were at about 10-15% charge you may have gotten the full 50kw. For a while at least.
