Not an MG
Hello everyone,

I've test drove an MG 4 today (SE Long Range) and strongly considering placing an order for the Trophy in Grey. Lead times have been quoted at around 18 weeks.

This will be our first EV and we do around 8000 miles ahead. We have a driveway and are already on Octopus so will look to get a 7kW charger and Octopus Go.

Regarding driver settings – I’m aware that some settings are required to be set again each time the car is started. Is it just the “drive mode” (Standard, Eco, etc) and regen settings? And are the defaults "Standard" mode and "3" regen? Are others such as LKA disabling, Driver Assist System setting (i.e. Speed limit or ACC) etc also reset?

Regarding the iSMART Live – How long is the live subscription? Is it life of car or a few years? Does Cabin Preconditioning work without the “live” part? It’s not entirely clear what is part of the “standard” iSMART and what comes with the additional “Live” services.

My apologies if these have been answered elsewhere. I'm working through some of the more active threads.

Thanks,
Gordon

You're right about the drive mode settings - they reset to Normal / Regen 3 each time. I don't find this a problem. You can configure a Custom mode (regen level, steering, acceleration) which are remembered, although you still need to select "custom" on startup.

On my Trophy, LKA settings are remembered on each start-up, including being turned off completely.

Driver alertness is two systems. The basic one is present on both SE and Trophy and seems to pick up if you're weaving around the road, it prompts with "Don't drive tired" or similar.
Trophy has a driver-facing camera that monitors "alertness" and messages "Focus on driving" rather eagerly. You can disable the audible chime - and it remains off, including after a re-start. This has been discussed at length in other posts. Personally, I find with the chimes off it's not an issue.

Obviously you need to enable ACC each time you need it, and it sets to the current speed when switched on. I haven't tried the speed limiter.

No idea how long the iSmart / data services last for - but I have discovered the "core" services, namely the iSmart app connectivity to the car appears ring fenced from Trophy-specific data services (Amazon music, Connected Sat Nav, etc)
I found this out because I appeared to run out of data for Amazon music - and annoyingly SatNav too, which refused to start. But could still remotely monitor charging, etc.

Hoping my Trophy data allowance resets in the next couple of days. I will make a separate post about this, as I find the refusal of SatNav to operate at all without data very annoying. Plus I may have found a quirk / trick to get it started again.

Happy with my Trophy overall. Initially wondered if the extras weren't worth the additional £3k, but now I'm content I made the right choice.

(Although SE Long Range buyers with 11kW charging and privacy glass for first batch folk got a fantastic deal IMO)

Regarding lead times, Autotrader right now shows 66 Trophy models, with a few of them having photos sitting in the dealers, stated as “brand new available now”.

Marty, doesn't Amazon music run over your network provider's data? Was it MG sat nav or another system? I did not think MG provided data service other than for the services it provided but if it does then this is another school day in this car!

They are all telling porkies, I have reached out to a few , then they tell you its a factory order.

The Trophy has additional live services which include weather, live traffic and Amazon music. I have emailed MG customer services to ask how much data is included and for how long. I'll post their reply when I get it.

Oh that's a good point. I haven't heard any information on the data allowance. I look forward to your response.

I might hold off putting a deposit down until there's more information on the oil leak and undertray bulge. Maybe the 18 week shipment will have the issues sorted but maybe not...

I too am with Octopus, but moved from GO to GO Faster as you get an extra 1 hour cheap rate from 2130-0230. The daily charge and peak cost are identical, so makes sense to move to the GO Faster tariff. You have to prove you own an EV, so quote your order number, which can be done before you get your car.

Was this not only available on the Trophy Connect ??
sorry just realised I have ‘strayed’ onto an MG 4 forum ?
