Cruise Control Steering Wheel Stiff

Hi,

I searched in the forum and couldn't find the answer to this.

For mg MG4 Trophy EV, the steering wheel appears stiff when on Adaptive Cruise Control. What I mean by stiff is if you're trying to re-align the car in the lane and move the steering wheel slightly, the steering wheel is very stiff to move and a bit jolty.

When I was driving the test drive vehicle at MG garage, the steering wheel wasn't stiff when using ACC.

Anyone know why it's stiff.

Good point. This is with lane keep assist disabled at the start of the journey

@theno1 do you see a steering wheel symbol near the top-left of the driver display when you engage "ACC"? If yes then you actually have TJA selected rather than just ACC - you can change this selection in the MG Pilot menu.

Thanks all, that fixed it! Swapped from TJA to ACC and tested it out on my road! Works like a treat!

Or you could leave TJA on and the car steers itself! Almost. It’s more relaxing. I use it a lot.

I haven't dared try that yet. Bricktop says it works on the X-Power, but I'm not so sure it works so well on the pleb cars.

I tried TJA again over the weekend on my trip down to the Home Land and back ... each time it reminded me why not to use it!

On the flip-side, LKA generally works fine for me.

Handy to know. There might be a difference between the X-Power and the other models then. I di use it in slow traffic jams. On the M25 in May the main problem was that I hadn't left my Kindle accessible as the car was doing a fine job on its own. But as soon as the speed picks up to about 10 mph, I've had enough.

I noticed an hour or so later that trying the same thing on the M1 didn't work nearly so well, because the problem there was narrow lanes. It didn't like these.

I used to have TJA on all the time when on the motorway and indeed I drove to Paris and back with it enabled for 70% of the time. That was before the latest upgrade when it was still a bit sketchy but on French roads it never gave me any issues.
Now I use it mostly on motorways or dual carriageways at speeds of 50mph or less when traffic is moderately intense.
Otherwise I use ACC with Heavy steering or just the manual speed limiter.
