So today we got to drive the Cyberster for a couple of hours. Got to say it's such a nice looking car and really nice to drive. The one we drove was the single motor but with the performance on offer I actually think it's more than enough and probably the one we'll go for. Loved the interior which is in different league to our MG4. Loved the way it drove, dealt with the very rough north Norfolk roads well whilst still handling nicely and really like the doors, I don't think they would ever get old.
True to form the software is a bit of a let down, the nav screen is way too small and the interface uses fonts that are too small to be read on the move with a lot of unnecessary information on the screens. That said nothing I couldn't live with however the MG4 with its bigger central screen does work better.

I think if it was £100k+ I'd struggle to overlook those things however at £55k it's good value, and who knows maybe MG will roll out a 'comfort update' in the future to address those issues.............although probably not!

If you can drive the GT you can get a good comparison. Only few dealers have both for test. Either way 5 seconds is fast in an EV.

I did my first test drive today, and this is going from a 10 year old ICE car so its not a like for like comparison. Mine was in a GT model. For reference I've been wanting to buy this car for a very long time but wanted a test drive first.
  • Power-wise the car felt very sluggish when in comfort mode. When you flicked it into Sport mode it changed it into a different beast, that had plenty of power and that's the mode I'd leave the car in all of the time if it was me.

  • Visibility was minimal, the airflow mesh that goes between the rear seats obscures the small amount of view you get, that really needs to come out if you don't have the roof down.

  • Battery-wise the car looked like it would do 200 miles on a full charge, but that is with people like me ragging it around, so efficiency should put it up to about 220 miles as a daily driver.

  • I was surprised how warm I felt with the roof down, at 10c outside but with the heating on I was comfortably warm in just a light jacket

  • When you push the car (especially under braking) you realise its 2 tonnes, it feels heavy. Under general driving the car feels pretty planted and not too heavy.

  • I'm not sure if it was because the steering was set up in a specific way but I never felt in control of the car, it always felt like I was playing a racing game with a pretend steering wheel. That might just be because I'm used to the direct-to-road ICE car and I'll get used to it

  • The driver assist systems didn't once complain at me, and I had pushed the car outside of lanes, a little over the speed limit, etc. I was pleasantly surprised at this

Availability seems to be very limited though, the sales team could only get me one or two colours and none of the combinations I'd expect, it was very much "these are your only options, take it or leave it"

Overall it was a good car to drive but certainly has made me go from 'I must have this' to "maybe there are other options if I wait".

When i went to MG Chorley on Saturday, about my X Power. They had 6 Cybersters on the forecourt. 🙂👍

Only saw one on the road so far. A White one. Twas bloody lovely. 😎🙂👍

Chorley is a bit out of my way unless they want to deliver it half a country away!

Might give a few more dealers a ring though to see what they have, thanks!

We had a test drive last weekend (here in Belgium), and I was wondering how it compared to my Model 3 Performance. They have about the same weight, power, 0-60 time, and both are AWD. Based on the many journalists that claim it's more a GT than a sports car, I thought I was in for a disappointment.

It turned out the other way around. We were really enjoying the drive, I instantly put it in supersport and never looked back at settings or screens. The fake motor sound, to my surprise, was really fun to have. It handled a lot like the Tesla, although the latter would be faster from A to B. The initial pull from the Tesla was also absent, it's more gentile. The only negative thing I could think of, is the brake pedal feel. The braking power is there but the pedal travel before initial bite is scary long!

We were lucky to have all possible colors (except blue) on display, so we could make a better choice. We changed from dark grey to ivory white. The red interior and black roof were already decided. Because of the color change, we now have to wait 4 months.
