About a year ago, I moved from EDF (using the 4.5p offpeak deal from 2 years earlier) to Octopus. With EDF I had a standard, Direct Debit Monthly Whole Amount in that I paid the exact amount of energy I used each month (which was automatically read from my smart meter) via direct debit 14 days or so later. This is how it worked 30-40 years ago with BT, my main electric / oil/ company, in that every 3 months I got a bill, and it was paid via cash, cheque etc at the bank. In recent times, at least with octopus, they dont seem to have a clue what Im asking for (they can only spread the payments at some sort of average over 12 months). So the question is, has anyone managed to get standard whole amount direct debit, and from which company for electric, so me it just seem such as standard thing, in that you receive a bill, and 14 days later its automatically paid :unsure:

Tomato energy do a variable DD. You pay for what you use, plus the daily standing charge.
:love:Apologies for the 100 words, when 10 will do - just what we need - IOG is useful in the mids of winter (with the extra slots), but the 5p /unit overnight will more than cover this.:love:

Paying on receipt of bill, however you pay it, cash, cheque, variable DD is generally more expensive per unit, than a regular monthly fixed DD, hence why lots of people use this method apart from the budgeting aspect, after all who volunteers for the pay more option ?

For instance the Ofgem price cap prices for electricity for my region (Jan-Mar 2025) are:

Single rate
Monthly DD - 23.86p
Credit (pay upon receipt of bill) - 25.12p

Multi rate (ie Go)
Monthly DD - 22.95p
Credit (pay upon receipt of bill) - 24.15p

Did you notice the underlined 'generally' in my post since it was a reply to the OP about payment methods and not about any particular energy suppliers? :)
Yes I did. Did you notice the smiley face in my post, meant to indicate a slight tongue in cheek reply. :) (ooh, there it is again).
